Maata is an all d guy, might be a good partner for Parekh sometimes. Dont even need to flip him for his value but probably could.

Wow, wow wow.

Colour me impressed with the haul and the direction. Plus the trade tree for Matt tachuck grows ever so branched.

Rebiggle baby.

I’m happy with the returns of both of our dmen trades this year.

This explains why Bru was down with the wranglers and now he will be up with the team very quickly.

Weegar is ok the wrong side of thirty and experiencing a brutal year. His head and heart are not in the game. He had Olympic aspirations but really tanked his value this year. His contract is prohibitive moving forward for what he brings. Blocks and hits at that price are too rich. I trust the flames to know what’s going on with him moving forward. I think he is on the way down.

He will be a good stabilizing pro on the Utah team. I like the trade due to the assets acquired. Utahs coffers were overflowing.

Our already good scouting dept has even more bullets now.

I think we have aims to move up. If Bjork or Morozov are there I’m sure Connie is thinking what I am too.

Plus can’t stand ya looks to be at worst a top 9. Size speed jam and decent scoring instincts with a RHS at center is a good get.

Maata is a guy who if he gets some playimg time could fetch us something at the deadline this year or next.

I like the look of our dcorps going forward. They will be competitive and fluid if pieces need to be moved.

Bahl-white cloud , Kuzy and Bru , maata and parekh with Hanley and pascal is nice depth and grit. Arguably you could still move Hanley and pascal for something too. But they are good injury depth. Same with Miromanov.

This trade is another home run. It’s a grandslam if we turn any of the seconds into top six talent.

So far a bottom out is looking likely. Now we can start adding top of the draft talent with out any hiccups.

gFG and thanks to all the people who will buy tickets for this team in the rebiggle.

If Castagna doesn’t work out the fans can start chanting Can’t-Stand-Ya when he’s on the ice. So really we can’t lose

I won't be at all surprised if Conroy gets a pick for Maatta next year or the year after, as well.
Castagna also plays a pretty hard nosed game from the clips I'm seeing.

Good return for Weegar. We need to hit on these draft picks. I wouldnt be surprised if Maata comes in and plays close to where Weegar was at.

They got 3 picks somewhere between 33 and 50 is probably the best way to look at the 2nd rounders, which is pretty good.

It's equivalent value to a mid-round 1st (18 OV)

But I still think I'd rather just have had a 1st + OTT 2nd, or even like Beaudoin + OTT 2nd.

I think in this case it does feel like they sold a low on Weegar just based on his play this year, but I think they have real concerns this wasn't just a blip. His PDO would suggest a bounce back next season though.

I still think that if Parayko ends up getting the rumoured package Mrtka + 1st that this will look more underwheming.

Yeah, you can love the player, but the guy was visibly melting down this season. Hope the change of scenery does him good.

I don’t mind the trade overall, I’m a little concerned with not having another first rounder. Losing Weegar is good for the tank and gives Parekh some top PP time. I hope the scouts are doing some serious homework before this draft, they really need to find some elite talent with these picks.

The more I read about Castagna the more I think hes equivalent to another early 2nd. He's a decent prospect this isn't a Wiebe situation

Early 3rd rounder who has raised his stock, good skater and big center who is putting up some points and leads the entire ncaa in face-off percentage.

I don't mind it.

Weegar is older and having a horrible season. His contract is fine but that term is long.. so I am happy we got out of it.

I like Weegs the player and the person but this is a pretty good deal, given the situation.
I think this is a trade that works for everyone. If weegs is declining we arent stuck with him over too long. Consequently utah didnt give up a first if he does decline and if he doesnt and they get some great years still they consider it a fair trade. Three seconds is quite a bit and i would have Castagna as a high second low first level pick. Big centers that skate well and are good in the dot are worth a lot.

I think people arent getting how loathe teams are to give up centers.

If you put a 25 year old 30 point big center that skates well and was good in the dot what would he get you in the market today? My guess is quite a bit.

I think he has negative value at this point. He was healthy scratched something like 23 games in a row and has two more years on his contract. That doesn't mean he can't be rehabbed. He was once a decent defenseman. Look at how the Penguins get Jarry back on track after being in the AHL and on waivers last year. They got him playing well enough that they traded him for a haul. Maybe Conroy can get some value at the next trade deadline for Maatta.

Weeger has an albatross of a contract. This was a miracle on the part of Conroy. Now to get rid of Kadri's.

Do you really think there is a big difference between spot 32 and 35? It is much different than the difference with spots 32 and 49.

Maybe that's part of the problem to me, it's a fair return for what Weegar is this season. But not a fair return for what his upside has been as a Flames player.

So you're either selling on him at his low point, or you're sold that this isn't a low and you have to sell now because his value will just keep dropping

Personally I think he bounces back and was putting way too much pressure on himself this season.
