Let's take the story about Peters at face value, for argument's sake - I assume the poster knows a family member of his or some such. And let's say we take incogneto's story at face value too (I think he is a credible poster). So.... what happens if Peters opts for Ottawa or decides to stay in Raleigh? Is it "GG will continue to be our coach and we love him!" or do we go with option C and bring Don Hay back?

The Flames likely remain silent unless they have an agreement with Peters. So if he ends up in Ottawa or Edmonton its business as usual and we assume (hope) the Flames continue the search.

If Bennett is going to break out post-Gulutzan, I doubt it'd be under Bill Peters. And getting more out of Bennett (among others) is the foremost reason to fire Gulutzan.

I admit sometimes you need to play a responsible style, but Peters seems like another in a long line of coaches who overcoach the offense out of good players. We've already got one of those.

How to do you get .2 or .3 of a goal when you’re averaging over 2 seasons?

He isn't my 1st or 2nd choice but I'll support the decision. The Hurricanes play a quick game, less methodical. I think the players we have here will fit into Peters style of play just fine and when there are lapses he'll let them know.

One concern I do have is Peters' support staff. Steve Smith handles the defense. He can stay in Carolina.

I also appreciate the concern over his W/L record in the NHL as a head coach thus far. Yeah, its not great. But neither were the Hurricanes and yet he still had them playing meaningful hockey into the end of this season. There was motivation. Where was it here?

The style of play works on the graphs and charts but certainly not the eye test.

The last 2 seasons have been brutal hockey. Maybe if the team played this style with more passion it would be entertaining?

Are you referring to the Flames or Hurricanes (or both)?

The Flames? Absolutely. I agree. My biggest complaint of the GG era was the games weren't fun to watch.

The Hurricanes? Not that I watched all 82, but the games I did see did not remind me of Flames games.

Peters running the Flames won't result in identical play, but he does coach a style that Treliving clearly wants. Possession based. There are parallels between the coaches but enough differences to make this appreciably different.

He seems like an awesome guy, I listened to his whole Fan960 interview after he went to visit the Humboldt players.

I still cant wait until hes fired. I dont want to see Gulutzan unemployed, I just want him to not be the Calgary Flames' coach anymore.

Yes, I think we would all love for him to get a $100M 10-year contract to coach the Oilers. Hell of a guy and would be thrilled for him and his family.

That would be fantastic!

Then they could change the name of 'Klondike Days' to 'Capital Expo' to 'Gulutzan Days.'

But every day is 'Gulutzan Day!'

Just as long as hes not here.

I maintain there weren't fun to watch simply because they weren't scoring. Not scoring may indeed be a result of a flawed system/coach, player usage, whatever - 100% agree. I'm not going to pretend I know better, but the Flames consistently outplayed/chanced the opponent (by my eye test).
Scoring goals = winning = fun.
Not scoring goals = losing = not fun.

Talking about the Flames. I typically only watch the hurricanes 2-5 times a year. I just see a team with a brutal playoff drought and wonder how thst coach is going to get our team over the top. With Gulutzan being Treliving’s last choice my confidence is shaken in his ability to hire the right coach for the team

PP coaches taking it on the chin on Fan960 this am.
Concensus is they should be fired to the moon. No way to justify bringing them back.
Main complaints:
2 for 55 to close the season.
Brouwer on PP
Hamilton and Tkachuk snubs for most of the season.
Stationary predictable set up.

That's according to Warrener and clan so please don't correct me GioforPM, give them a call instead :-) JK.

Begs a question, since they are so open to firing Cameron, did they get a tip?

That's fair. We're all sort of stuck with accepting the vision of the GM, no matter who that is. He has a certain way he wants his team to play and will keep shaping that be it with coaching changes or personnel moves until the day he is let go or retires, etc.

I trust Treliving, but yeah, the last coaching hire shakes that a bit and we're not even guaranteed that he's moving on from GG.

IMO he won't be anyone's NHL head coach. He's had two shots without success. His ceiling is now minor league, junior or Euro head coach or NHL AC. I think he could do the latter with a good motivational coach. Torts might hire him I guess.

I suppose it's too bad - maybe he got HC gigs too early in his career and now won't get any more no matter what he does at other levels.

Then a coaching change that runs a similar setup but brings a different vision/voice may be what the Flames need. They couldn't finish, and clearly the staff didn't have an answer for that. Nothing changed. Is that on the players to figure it out? Of course. But the coaches need to assist with that and find a way to get the team over that particular hump. They didn't.

Agree that there are other teams that play similar systems but with more excitement. Heck, a few PP goals and this team looks a lot different (who is afraid to slash Gaudreau or Monahan to prevent more scoring?)

Part of the current impression of this team comes from the fact they cashed out pretty early and the hockey was extra-uninspiring from the Tkachuk injury to the end of the season as a result. It's hard to judge the system from that point because the players just weren't trying hard enough IMO.

I think in the near term you are correct. Long term I disagree. Gulutzan is still young. 5-10 years as an AC on a perennial winner/playoff team will give him the necessary experience/clout. Guys like Sutter, AV, Hitch, Q, Keenan all took a few teams (and ups/downs) to become the coaches they were near the end. On good scenario for Gulutzan would be to join the leafs once their AC is hired by another team as head coach and learn from Babcock.

Neither would I, but I have to admit this just on the basis of Burke's personality because I have no idea what his job entails.
