Uhhh, ya- this is smuggler’s inn we’re talking about. They have an eat till you drop salad/bread bar and maybe 8 wines on the menu. Absolutely have nothing against it, but it is one I would consider if taking the kids.
Just to add, I believe in only taking kids to family friendly restaurants and during family friendly hours.

My daughter will only eat food that she knows she likes from previous experience. No amount of cajoling will convince her otherwise. My son is a more adventurous with food so I'm less concerned about him. We could order the burger entree but there is no way my daughter will be able to fit the burger into her mouth so that's why I was asking if there was a kids menu. But it doesn't sound like it.
Just looking for a steakhouse to take my wife on her birthday. She will definitely want the kids there so no babysitter. My wife and I used to go to Smugglers periodically but haven't been back since we had the kids so I thought of taking her back there but it's no good if the kids don't eat. Fallback option is The Keg at Crowfoot. They have a kids menu that's pretty popular with our kids.

Smugglers certainly isn't so high-end that it is off limits to a kid.
That being said - kid menus usually suck anyway. You'll know that you've succeeded when your kid scoffs at the kids chicken fingers and makes you pay for their lobster and mussels and then laments that the broth was a little too salty.

Foodies may scoff, but The Keg is pretty consistent and is pretty good for kids too. That's my sister's go-to birthday dinner place, and I always mock her for it, but always leave satisfied.
I will recommend you avoid Mr. Mike's (smaller Canadian chain) up in Creekside. Nothing special, pricies similar to The Keg for less quality, a lost reservation that put our group in the bar side, pretty long wait for the entrees, and overcooked steak. I set the bar plenty low enough, I am pretty easy to please, but was disappointed with that one. Maybe just a bad day, but I'm not in a rush to go back. Silver lining - your kids could run amok and nobody would even notice in the loud bar side!

I know this sounds obvious but how about splitting a good entree? I used to work at a well known steakhouse in Calgary and it always amazed me at how many parents would choose the chicken finger and fry option for their children or a burger.
I would have lot's of parents order 2 chicken finger meals or burgers at $14 each or something like that meanwhile they could have ordered 1 8oz rib eye or New York AAA grade steak sandwich for $20 and have a higher quality meal and fed both kids for the most part, I am talking about very young children here.
Just a thought

When my daughter turned 5 we let her choose where she wanted to go for her birthday dinner, thinking she would choose a typical kids place. We ended up going to Caesar's - she ordered the chateaubriand and shared with her sister and even had a go at the escargot (which was the only thing they didn't finish).
We have been exposing our kids to as many different kinds of restaurants as we can since they were born. But they know that their behaviour dictates where and when we go.
We also try to stick to 'off-peak' times when we take the kids. They eat at 5pm most days anyway so that is typically before the busy restaurant times.

Nick's is a good option. They have a kids menu and lots of famliies will be there. Our daughter loves it.

My daughter loves burgers. The problem is that adult size entree burgers are not made for 6 year old mouths. And she is also missing her two front teeth now, which makes eating a giant burger even more difficult. Often kids menus have sliders, which are perfect for her.

Considering I know who they have their lease through, and they had signed a 5 year lease prior to the social media outcry.. yeah. Seems likely.

The interesting part though is that I just called on Friday to make some reservations for next week and the girl confirmed they are closing.
It was announced at a staff meeting a little while ago and the staff was given notice.
I could see it potentially being a marketing ploy but than again, it's a busy place and has been in business for 40 years. It would strike me as odd to renew a lease and than pull a stunt by letting existing business know your closing and than HOPING they get the good news message?
Only other than I can think about is a sale might be in the works or a completely new concept coming in under the same ownership.
Hoping for the best though!

This just tells me that only a close, inner circle of staff knows they’ll still be open. Or they trained the FOH, including that girl, to tell customers they are closing to ensure solid reservations

There was definitely a staff announcement that they were closing, I knew a couple staff that were quite worried about finding new jobs so I don't know what they were planning

My wife and I tried a new Korean restaurant tonight called Sudam, located in Royal Oak. It was truly wonderful. It's our new favourite Korean restaurant in the city. We ordered way too much food but we got the seafood pancake, the LA style short ribs and the army base stew (budae jjigae jeongol -- I love mixing this with the rice) and they were all so delicious.

Noticed the Redwater Grille on Macleod is closed. So that means all of them are #### down in Calgary and oddly the only remaining location is in PEI

Tried Gorrila Whale Friday night. Nothing we tried was very good. Also, they put eggs on everything if you are not a fan of that.

Don't get me started on the trend of adding an egg to everything. As someone who doesn't eat eggs, this has to be the worst food trend of the decade.

On the right dish an egg can really elevate what you are eating.
That being said, it is a bit like using a vibrator during sex. You can't bring out the vibrator every time you and your wife have sex otherwise it becomes common place and overlooked. You need to use it judiciously so that maximum effect is maintained.
