Where would he play though?

First line center is Monahan, second is Backlund. $5M for 3rd line center?

I'd do backflips depending on the cost to acquire.

Another right shot top 6 C/RW that would essentially become a part of the forward core.

2 years $5 million I'd take him too. Apparently he's getting a lot of interest though as the 3rd best C on the UFA market behind Tavares and Stastny. He's going to get 4 or 5 years probably.

Thoughts on getting Kevin Hayes from NYR?

I keep hearing rumbling with his name associated to the Flames. If the cost of acquisition was low, I think I'd be all over it.

I don’t think the cost would be low but I think he would be a good fit. Bennett+Fox was the ask before the draft (from fans) so maybe Bennett+Kylington gets it done?

He has less than 50 points....in his last 3 years combined. This included two good teams in St. Louis and Colorado, where he was a healthy scratch numerous times. He's going to be 25 before the season starts, so it's not like he's due to breakout. Why would the Flames want a healthy scratch 15 point scorer?

Low risk, high reward.

His problem is between the ears. That ship has sailed. If he recovers anything at all it'll be in KHL.

Didn't Craig Button once say that Zach Fucale is one of the greatest goalies he has ever seen and compared him to Patrick Roy? LOL.

I would pass. He won't be cheap, will cost at least Bennett and he is a LS with below average skating. Don't see where he fits in and I would rather keep Bennett.

But two other teams have signed him for that precise reason
At what point does low risk/high reward become low risk/low reward?
I mean I guess I would consider a training camp invite. But I wouldn't want to commit a contract spot to a guy like this.

I watched Colorado play often last season. A few of Yakupov's goals were from beauty shots, but his compete level was startlingly low. There was a reason why he played fewer than 60 games. It would be hard to imagine him contributing consistently to any team that signed him.

Agreed normally...but,

The Flames need bodies...a bunch of them. They are 22 contracts below the limit as it sits right now. Add in the 9 qualified RFA's and they are at 37 (5 of them goaltenders). They still need to sign at least 9 guys just to field a full AHL team.

I have no problem with guys like Yak given 2 way deals for 1 year...this year. That may change next summer, but for now they have room for those kind of longshots. Maybe not him specifically, but for sure reclamation projects. They can certainly start as camp tryouts and then sign, but whatever the case, the team needs players...at least as it sits right now.

Guessing Yak would rather go play in Russia than take a 2 way 1 year deal here.

Yakupov moved to Canada when he was 16 to play hockey professionally. He wants to be in the NHL.

Rumors were circulating throughout the floor of the American Airlines Center Friday night of a potential deal involving Wayne Simmonds for Calgary defenseman Dougie Hamilton.

The Flames simply needed more from the Flyers, and GM Ron Hextall isn’t willing to part with the prospects that perspective teams continuously keep asking about whether it’s Travis Sanheim, Phillipe Myers or whomever
https://www.nbcsports.com/philadelph...ougie-hamilton

So if true, Treliving wanted Simmonds and a Flyers top prospect for Dougie.
