Wells playing great so far this year. Another HR. So much of this seasons offence will rely on him, and he's producing.

Very happy with the A's after this first week. Took 3 of 4 from the M's and then went into Anaheim and won 2 of 3 over the weekend. The starting pitchers have been good so far. The bullpen has been good, the strongest part of the team imo, and the bats have been very surprising. Not many dingers but really getting some clutch hitting which is something that hasn't happened in a couple of seasons. Unfortunately, it is only 1 week into the season.

Well I certainly hope their pitching staff gives them a chance to win every night (and day)
This season will only go as far as the pitching does.

I know it's early and all that, but damn. The Cubs have three guys in today's lineup batting over .200. And one of them is the pitcher.
Hoping that being back home in Wrigley for the opener will give them some life.

Looking forward to seeing the opening of the new park in Minneapolis today. First outdoor ball game there in 29 years. I'll have to check the weather forecast there as it's completely open air and at this time of year it can still be quite cool.

^^ I'm planning to check out Target Field later this summer when the M's are there. My gf's cousin is at opening day today, seemed pretty psyched about it.

The A's got a great pitching performance from Duke this afternoon. Duchscherer gave up just 2 hits in 7.1 innings in the A's 4-0 win vs the M's. I don't have high expectations, similar to Jays fans, but this start has me excited. Hopefully the pitching can hold up and the offence can continue to scratch out runs.

I wouldn't pin the lack of success thus far on Bradley alone.. but I wish already he'd just shut up and play.

Milton Bradley is a complete tw*t. Why do teams even bother with him anymore?

The Phillies fan invasion was orchestrated by the Nationals
Lost in our jaws dropping at the sheer amount of Phillies fans at Washington's opening day was a nuts-and-bolts explanation on how the Nationals could let such an embarrassing invasion occur.
....
The main way the Phillies avoided having to build a Trojan horse to gain access? The Nationals ticket office put no restrictions on the amount of group tickets that well-organized Phillies fans could buy before traveling down in buses. These group tickets were placed on sale well before individual tickets were ever made available to the public and allowed the group from Phillies Nation to buy a whopping 530 tickets for fans and friends of the blog.
What's even more galling to Nats fans is Brian Michael of Phillies Nation revealing that he didn't even have to take his own initiative to purchase the seats. He says a Nats ticket rep called him last December based on a previous ticket purchase he had made with the team. The folks at Phillies Nation are fine people and you certainly can't blame them or other Phillies fans for taking the opportunity offered.
....
It's one thing for team president Stan Kasten to go on a Philadelphia radio station in mid-April to make a ticket pitch for games that wouldn't have otherwise sold out. He did that last season because it's his job to pay Stephen Strasburg's(notes) contract.
But to call up visiting fans and give them first crack at tickets before making them available to home fans who want the feelgood experience of the home opener?

La Russa put pitcher Kyle Lohse in RF and 2B Felipe Lopez is now pitching.
I know La Russa does some crazy things with switches and perhaps they don't want Lohse pitching on an off day but that seems flat out nuts.
Lopez gives up a hit and a walk but gets out of the inning without a run!

2 complete scoreless games so far. They still have a ways to go to reach the Major League record for the longest scoreless game, which was almost 42 years ago to the day, and also featured the Mets.
From here: http://inplaymagazine.blogs.cbssport...28250/20974782
April 15, 1968 The Astros defeat the Mets in 24 innings,1-0, making it the longest scoreless game in major league history. The six hour and six-minute contest, in which each team had 79 at-bats and 11 hits, ends when Bob Aspromonte's grounder goes through the legs of shortstop Al Weiss scoring Norm Miller from third base with one out.

And in the top of the 19th, the Mets finally score.
With 2 outs, the Cards tie it in the bottom of the 19th. Those poor people will never get to go home.
20 innings later, Mets finally win 2-1.
