Thanks for your rundown on the Allied proposal Muta! It is much appreciated.

At least BKDI architects is getting some work out of this one being chosen.

It still looks to me like something from Dune, but I've got a lot of respect for Andrew Mosker (Cantos director) and can't imagine that Cantos would accept anything that they see as a compromise. I said when the five finalists were released that I'd be happy to have any of them in the city, and I will be happy and excited to see this one get built, but for now I'm going to continue to sulk that SPF didn't get picked. I really hope that we get a similar quality of proposals for the central library when it comes to it.

We all said that, but none of us really meant it!

Does anyone know how this competition process works? Do all these companies get compensated for the original proposal and the winner gets the full contract or is it really a competition where there is only one winner and that's it?

I seriously hope there is compensation of some sort for the initial designs... at least the short listed candidates.

If you're talking about Cantos, the five finalists each received 50k to come up with concepts. Not really sure what the winner gets.

The St. Patrick's bridge was an open call though wasn't it?

The winner gets the architectural design contract for the project. (on top of the 50k, for being shortlisted)

The bridge designs we've seen this week get nothing - however, when it's cut down to 5 entries or so, those 5 firms will get 50k each to help cover their costs.
