Ever since I was introduced to classical music, the more I see fans of Kanye West as being only slightly more intelligent than the average brain damage victim. There I said it. I can't stand the guy.

Kanye West has shown himself to be an idiot, this much is obvious. But what makes you say Beyonce and Swift are idiots? I have seen nothing that leads me to think that. DO you have an example of something they've said or done that would indicate that?

What I've seen is Beyonce is full of class and a good business person, and Swift is mature beyond her years. Show me something that indicates otherwise and perhaps I can be persuaded.

Kanye West is actually Adam West in disguise. That is the only way explain the way he acts.

See? Mature beyond her years. How many celebs think that since people are watching them, they can just begin spouting off about anything and everything? At least Swift indicates she is unwilling to act like she knows more than she does and is wise enough to see and accept her deficiencies. I wish more people would.

I'm not a big fan of her music but she's doing a rather masterful job of building both her music as well as branding her image, including acting (a very credible job on CSI as an example).

She'll be a conglomerate.

Meanwhile, there's going to be at least one person today very thankful for Kanye West's blooper last night . . . . . . . Jay Leno.

Ya, can't say as I even know one of her songs. Not even going to discuss talent since I don't know.

My girls showed me a rap song she did, tongue in cheek. I thought it was a pretty good job, and anyone who can laugh at themselves are going to go far.

That's a good point. I have no idea if he mixes his own stuff.

It wasn't supposed to. Was there a foregone assumption that people post things just to disagree with someone else?

I actually disagree with her stance - if I had a chance to stand up and say "George Bush hates black people".... well, I'm not black so that's not going to work.... but if I had the fame and power to say something I believed in, damn right I would say it. HOWEVER, I respect her opinion, she seems to have thought it through and I think it shows she is smarter than your average 18 year old. I was actually agreeing with the poster who said she seemed to have a good head on her shoulders.

Ah, I apologize, I misinterpreted you post. I disagree with famous people using their fame to pimp their views though. This is because I find, for the most part, the opinions they possess are quite uninformed.

As long as that standard applies to those who listen to Nickelback as well...I agree.

yet i have a feeling that a double standard of immense proportions exists among those who post on this site about said band.

i dont listen to either one of them myself, but never would i degrade anyone for doing so...but im willing to bet a search of old threads in the OT about Nickelback would have several harsh assessments of those who like them.

As for this West clown...he is the epitome of whats wrong with a good portion of society today. No respect, no manners, no couth and certainly a sense of entitlement because he is "hip and cool". Guy is a lame talent IMO who thinks he is a whole lot more important than he ever has been or ever will be.

[quote=Devils'Advocate;2027439]It wasn't supposed to. Was there a foregone assumption that people post things just to disagree with someone else? [quote]

I thought you were agreeing, not disagreeing.

There seems to be this assumption that any post quoting a previous post and that neglects to specifically state whether they are agreeing or disagreeing is assumed to be disagreeing. Not sure how that got started, it is one of my three top pet peeves on these types of forums...

Just after:
1) posting as if you think the player/coach/GM actually reads the forum AND actually cares what you think. eg. "Hey, Sutter, trade for Heatley..." Even if by some miracle he read your post, it isn't like he's going to go, "you know, that anonymous poster on Calgarypuck is right, I'll call Murray right now."
2) posting as if you are an expert on something, when you don't have a clue. Like non-lawyers giving legal opinions. Might find some examples on the threads about the Coyotes sale.

The second pet peeve brings me back to your Swift quote. You disagree with her stance, but my opinion is that is the right stance. If she doesn't know enough about politics, then her voicing opinions about politics could unduly influence her fans. It seems she would rather her fans made up their own minds rather than follow someone who admittedly doesn't know enough (yet). Now if she knew enough about politics, then maybe she should be speaking up, but not before. Or knew enough about one specific issue (like Michael J Fox and stem cell research), then speak up on that issue.

I think it is like having Ellen as a judge on American Idol. She is not a music industry insider, yet she will be influencing people's opinions on music talent. Cowell is a producer, Abdul a singer/choreographer, Jackson a musician/producer, and the new girl (forgot her name) a songwriter/performer. Their opinions may not be the same as yours, but they have knowledge and experience. Ellen is a comedian, she does not have the music background required to be voicing her opinion in a forum that may make or break a singer's career IMO

I agree with Swift. I think it shows maturity. I wish K West had half of that maturity.

Can't say I'm surprised. The guy is an egotistical tool and always will be.

That said, It's too bad that this guys antics are far going to outweigh his achievements. I'm not the biggest fan of him as an artist.. but his earlier production work is incredible (see before he became fascinated with Auto-tune). It's almost too bad that people are going to disregard his work with Talib Kweli, Dilated Peoples, Common and of course his work on The Blueprint.

You see, its the science of being a celeb.

You can be a complete dickhead racists hatemonger, but because your in a position to influence your fans you become edgy and cool.

People should be looking at this guy as an example of what you don't want to be as a person, but because he has wealth, and enough talent to garner his share of the airwaves his message is going to get out there.

Basically, Kayne West is no better then some cracker poor folk bigot from Georgia who rails about them god damned ni%%gers wreckin the Contiguous Uniiited States.

The only thing that seperates the two is his bank account.

Its all a farce. Being famous nowadays has very little to do with talent and more to do with what kind of headlines you can create. This stupid story is the main story on CNN.com. Its a joke. And the thing is, everything seems to fabricated and pre-mediated to be a publicity stunt. From Janet Jackson at the superbowl, to Kanye, to Lindsey Lohan, Britney, and all of them. And the pathetic thing is, it works, because there is a huge number of people out there that just eat this stuff up. Any awards shows these days, especially one's put on by MTV, are not even worth tuning in to, its pretty much on the same level as TMZ.
