I kind of wonder if designer jeans have more psychological benefits than actual physical benefits.
So many people are saying things like, "Ohhh my 300 dollar jeans make my ass look SO good!" But I really think that if jeans are making your ass look good, you probably have a nice ass in the first place. They are jeans, not miracle pants. If you're fat, you're fat. If you have a wide ass, you have a wide ass. I really don't think 300 dollar jeans is going to change that fact, other than it might distract people from your wide load with a fancy lable.
I think if you have a good figure and a nice ass, you could probably wear any jeans and they would look good. Whether they were $20 or $300, someone with a good ass will be able to pull them off.
I'm not trying to be a jerk, its just that I know a lot of people who wear very expensive jeans, and I really don't think it makes them look any better. I'm sure in their mind they think they look hot, but they probably have to tell themselves that so that they can justify spending that much on a pair of jeans.
I think a lot of people who wear these expensive jeans get a bad rep just because they paid a bit more than the next guy for said jeans.
I buy the clothes that catch my eye, the ones that I find the most comfortable and the ones that inspire confidence. You can say whatever you want, if you are dressing right you feel right..
Now please do not flip this on me telling me I need to spend 300 dollars on jeans to feel good I have issues, because as I said before I also own a $8 Giant Tiger button up shirt that I LOVE to wear and also makes me feel confident. It is about finding what makes YOU feel good, who gives a crap about what the next guy thinks about you. Make sure that it pleases your inner self, if that works then you will be alright no matter what you are wearing. For some of us it just happens that expensive jeans and other designer clothes catch our eye and we enjoy wearing them.
If you are buying a certain piece of clothing because you want to impress people, I think you are doing it for the wrong reasons. It should always be about you first. Which is why when people beak me about paying as much as I do for some of my clothes I just ignore them, or tell them to beat it, because if it makes me feel good I will do it. And if they can't understand that, then they aren't someone I want to be involved with.

Your mom is right. You need to spend on quality clothes, but you can supplement them with less expensive pieces. I coudn't get through a week with only 3 pairs of jeans. I like to have 8-10 pair of really good jeans for going out and 15-20 for work, hockey rinks, dog park, my sister-in-laws disgusting house, etc.
I won't wear 200.00 jeans to work. I work with a lot of people who are just barely getting by so I feel uncomfortable showing up in higher end clothes and I wear jeans almost every day. I'll stick to average brands for work and save my nice jeans for after work and weekends.
Agreed on purses, my compromise on that with my hubby is one per season. As far as the magic jeans go, there's no way hubby would ever understand spending that on jeans and I'd rather win other battles. (like purses, shoes and my Flames road trips)
I plan to stop buying jeans at Old Navy because they are mostly junk. I've enlisted the help of my friends to go with me for my annual tank top stock up and not let me be swayed by anything else in that store!
Old Navy jeans are junk..any pair i ever had from there fell apart..as far as purses..I got a Coach purse in the states this year on half price for 180 dollars..then my husband bought me the matching wallet for Christmas (260 dollars). That just kills me! I'm not cheap, but I do always look hard for a bargain. But I have the same philosophy with purses as I do clothes, I buy only a few a year now, but I usually get 400 dollar purses for 100. I cracked right up when you said that about your sister in law. I used to have a sister in law that was so dirty, I would only wear sweat pants (which i never wear) to her house, because it was so dirty and had animal hair everywhere. If I had to I could just throw the pants in the garbage when I got home. I didn't go there often!

I still leave covered in cat hair if I sit on her couch. Her cat died TWO YEARS AGO! Its disgusting! Old Navy jeans were made for visiting her!

exactly , the truth of the matter with my jeans is that most of my friends or people i know cant tell the difference between a pair of levis and the rock and republics that i wear..... so im not buying them impress or please anyone but myself . I enjoy jeans i buy and it makes me feel good when i wear them . My mother in law came to town and brought a pair of jeans for me that i bought from someone in Calgary . She said why would you pay this much for jeans etc... I tried them on and she said wow those fit a lot better than the baggy loose fitting jeans you used to wear....
This has been a fascinating thread to read through. Man, do I feel old - I didn't even know there were other brands of jeans out there except Levi's and Wrangler.
Only thing I know about jeans is that I have only owned two Old Navy pairs and they are ripping apart after a year and change whereas other pairs of mine that are 4 years old and still going strong.

What's wrong with Levi's anyway? I hear they are not hip 'n trendy anymore, I guess it's because they don't have those heterosexually challenged letters across the back pockets??

raw denim is denim that hasnt been treated with any kind of wash and distressing. You wear the jeans and you wear the distressing and fading into it . SO it truly is a one of a kind pair of denim exclusive to only you ...... a lot of people say its better quality ... i am in the process of researching now as my wife bought me two pairs to see what its all about ....

just because you dont like the back pockets doesnt mean they are gay ..... Not all of them are letters either..... take some time to do some research and then be open to the fact that some people like those "gay" pockets and shoudnt be made fun of because they wear them. Im not making fun of you for liking Levis....
I find a lot of the replies in this thread very offensive. I think there are some border line personal attacks here. People in this thread need to take a step back and reflect on their comments, maybe then they will see how they can deeply offend some of us who enjoy looking good for the ladies.
Like I don't go around making fun of you old farts that I see at the game and out in public with 20 dollar ass sag jeans, grown out beer guts, bald heads and terrible facial hair decisions.

Opps.. am I a hypocrite now?
i agree whole heartedly and i know you were being sarcastic but i dont wear the jeans too look good for the ladies. I am married and my wife could care less what i wore. I do it because i like the jeans, they fit well , they make me feel good , and i dont see why i should buy 50 dollar jeans that last for a year ( maybe) when i could buy 200 dollar jeans that last for more than 5 years... but i did like your hypocrtical come back hahah

With my only contribution to this thread being that I buy my jeans at winners, but have read a lot of the "this thread is so gay" responses, I just want to add that for me a lot of the WTF kind of thinking is just that some of the posts in this thread remind me of being 16 again.
"OMG you wear $40 jeans? What a loser" kind of stuff. It is just really weird to hear guys talk about their "style" and how much they love name brand stuff.
Of course I have my own bias built into that, as do many other people. And I have noticed that a lot of the posts have been genuine and about quality more than about bragging about name brands, but nevertheless it does remind me of watching kids get ridiculed for not wearing top designer fashion when really 99% of the time that is all BS and a $50 pair of jeans is of at least as good of quality as $200 pairs. I know the intentions of the posters isn't to come off as some 16 year old choch who thinks being seen with brand names is all that matters but I can see how others get that impression.
For full disclosure I don't think there is anything wrong with a guy who is concerned about his fashion, I just find it strange that it has to be associated with a name brand. I never buy clothes because the maker, I buy them because of look, quality, feel etc. And I do own a few G-Star Raw jakcets so I'm no stranger to spending ridiculous sums of money to look good.
i guess this is what you learn when you work with a bunch of pretentious fashionista girls, but you're not really supposed to wash jeans for the first couple of months when you buy them. Every couple of months is enough apparently, and when you do, make sure to turn them inside out to help counter color loss.
