I love this patch. You've got to play smart hockey. I agree that you sometimes get called for things that you have no control over like cross checking but for the most part you're in control of what you do and get called for. If you're poke checking, make sure you arent poke checking into their skates, stick lifting, make sure you have the proper angle on it. It's fantastic, no more cheap SOB's winning on exploits alone.

I played some guy online today and he had 59 minutes in penalties vs my 10 minutes. At one time, I had a 5 of 3 for 6 minutes, haha.

Wow. I've had games filled with penalties, but not to that extent!

I only scored once on the powerplay, let's say I was having a bad game. The guy I was playing, he was the flames and Kipper was on the fire. I peppered him with shots, my shot total was 45 for the game. Game ended up being 3 to 1 for me.

Have played two games so far, none online, just against the computer. Man, I gotta learn to play without taking penalties. The sheer number of checking from behind and interference penalties I've received is insane!

I guess I cannot do my patented hit the guy offside move anymore.

this is...uh, was a great move. i used to use it all the time as well.

i too get lots of interference penalties. the problem for me is the right analog stick is shoot and check. when you are trying to hit a one time a pass, sometimes you actually check an posing player instead of shoot. that is when i get called for interference.

I hate that. You don't know how many times I went to one time a shot and and then all of a sudden I am getting a penalty for interference. This part of the patch bothers me.

^ Previous 2 posts, L2 or Left trigger is your friend, and cancels out the checking motion so long as it is held down.

I'm terrible on the PP. The weakest part of my game by far. Opponents find it easy to play keep away from me and get me to take obstruction penalties. Any tips?

The best way I've found is to not change control of your players when you don't have the puck.
Pick one of your better players and pressure the guy with the puck, even from the backside as he's going up ice so you can nail him if he turns back.
It is way better this year than it was last year....this year your CPU players will at least forecheck semi-hard on their own.

Ya change the team strategy to a deep forecheck and let the cpu take him out.

Also for those that feel slow in vs. make sure you're changing the lines manually, don't wait for a whistle. This way you can get a nice flow, and once your top line is in the green send them out. If you manage it well you'll hardly ever have to put out the 4th line. And feel free to use the time out. I usually always call one in the middle of the game, whether I'm winning or not. Also for a last resort change to faster team, maybe Chicago or something until you can work better on positioning.

FYI for versus ranked games. The time to quit without penalty is being dropped from 5 minutes to 2 minutes.

Shoot from the point moving the puck around occasionally between your D men, aim blocker side and hopefully you'll get a rebound if the puck doesn't go straight in.

I've had lots of success that way on the PP.

I didn't even know you could quit the game within a certain amount of time and not be penalized with a quit early.

2 minutes is pretty fast.

I've been getting the "disc is unreadable" error 3 times now since the update. I hope it's not a sign.
