One can lift strictly for cardiovascular health, or one can lift to become bigger, faster and stronger. Not everyone who does the latter has an inflated self-image. That is certainly true and I have no problem with that at all. I have a problem with another person trying to "inspire" another person by belittling them on superficial terms. A person should gauge their success by looking at their own progress rather than by looking down and judging others. If you attain a personal goal - ie benching twice your body weight - that is awesome and much to be proud of but it is a positive goal rather than a goal that is based on making you feel superior to other people. Compare yourself with yourself and let other people live for themselves.
We don't have a responsibility to save other people. We have a responsibility to live our lives and respect others. If you want to inspire someone, tell them how much your life has improved from where it was, offer to walk or run with them, give them any tips when it comes to nutrition and then back off. People need to change for themselves rather than have a holier than thou (albeit possibly well-intentioned) person telling them how to run their lives.
