That is certainly true and I have no problem with that at all. I have a problem with another person trying to "inspire" another person by belittling them on superficial terms. A person should gauge their success by looking at their own progress rather than by looking down and judging others. If you attain a personal goal - ie benching twice your body weight - that is awesome and much to be proud of but it is a positive goal rather than a goal that is based on making you feel superior to other people. Compare yourself with yourself and let other people live for themselves.

We don't have a responsibility to save other people. We have a responsibility to live our lives and respect others. If you want to inspire someone, tell them how much your life has improved from where it was, offer to walk or run with them, give them any tips when it comes to nutrition and then back off. People need to change for themselves rather than have a holier than thou (albeit possibly well-intentioned) person telling them how to run their lives.

I think some are reading way too much into that article and/or taking it way to personally!

I think the moral of the story is "Bob" is sitting their drinking his beer, smoking his cigarette and just talking about how he wishes he had the time and energy to be fit. While the writer is saying that everyone has the time and energy if you really want change. Make time by getting up earlier or watching one less hour of TV a night.

He isn't belittling those who are happy with themselves fat, skinny, muscular, stupid or smart. He is talking to those who have nothing but excuses for something they feel they should be doing.

It's the same for that friend you know who hates their job but does nothing but complain about it. Do you tell them it is alright and to live with it? or do you tell them to STFU and find another job? Personally I tell my friends to go find a new job or stop whining to me about it because you are the only person who can fix your own problem(s). If you want some help finding a new job I will be there for them, but I am not Dr. Phil I don't want to hear your problems if you aren't going to try and fix them. But maybe I'm a dick...

Negative energy and complaining about your problems is not going to solve anything. IMO I see him saying if you want to make excuses then you are going to be that fat lazy guy forever, but if you want to work on it (can apply to anything in life) then you can accomplish it.

I apologize to all who were offended by the article, I guess I just read it a different way. But knowing many writers or people who are hardcore into this stuff they do not want anyone to feel belittled or unwelcome by the way they talk or act. Most if not all want you to succeed just as badly as they did!
