Why would one not assume that the club and Huberdeau were on the same page on how to handle things? There are no signs that the club or the player wanted to have the surgery earlier, and both sides agreed he would try to play through it.
It's remarkable how people can form such strong opinions with such little information.

Because this is pro sports. This is what happened with Monahan and Smid. Nhl let's players go till they say uncle not medical professionals.
Or in hockey player terms,....
" You go then you go till you can't go no more" - Shoresy
Ultimately the player decides to get surgery or not. The team may make a recommendation but if a Dr says it won’t get worse some players choose to try and play through it
The Quest stands upon the edge of a knife. Stray but a little, and it will fail, to the ruin of all. Yet hope remains while the Company is true. Go Flames Go!
Why does this remind me of Monahan. We better not give away a 1st again..
There's no urgency. At worst, he becomes "Carey Price" or any of the other litany of contracts that get traded to help teams hit the floor. If under those circumstances, frankly having his contract on the books helps us hit the floor while we rebuild.
I am hoping for a full and speedy recovery for him. I would hate to see his career end like this. Despite everything, he has given it his all since he's been here.

With Huberdeau done for the season and Kadri hopefully out the door, what does that do to our forward lines?
That would make the Flames leading scorer.....Backlund? Only took him 18 seasons playing for the Flames to take that title.
Then it's Coronato, Frost, and somehow....Farabee? Then Coleman, Zary, and somehow.....Sharangovich. Did not see Farabee and Sharagovich finishing the season in the top 5 scorers on this team.
I hope Huberdeau can enjoy a physically pain free life after hockey.
Agreed. Not sure why everyone feels compelled to #### on these guys. We know he is not doing well. He knows it. We don't need to hear it in every goldarn post.
I am glad he scored last night to go out on an up note. I hope his surgery goes well and he is able to play pain free and improves next year.

Stromgren hopefully with a proper chance, have that feeling that if we don't utilize him properly and give him an actual opportunity with minutes.... he will succeed elsewhere, wouldn't be the first time..

I'd assume it's because it's the exact playbook we took with Monahan.
Second Surgery (April 2022): Monahan was shut down by the Calgary Flames for season-ending surgery on his right hip, which was the opposite side of his previous procedure.
Previous Surgery (May 2021): Monahan previously underwent a season-ending procedure to repair his left hip.
It reeks of "let's see how the season goes and make a decision later...we might be in the playoff hunt". Which is also a behavior that causes A LOT of discussion on this forum between the "Conroy has a plan / vision" camp and the "There is no plan and the players have been dictating the direction of the club" side.
BarnBuner had a video of what happens during the procedure today on the show.
Im still thinking about it. it's very major.
Conroy was on 960 and reiterated how tough the surgery is. Said that electing for the surgery wasn’t just a hockey decision but a major life decision, which is why the Flames were leaving it entirely up to Huberdeau and supporting him however they could.
Said Huberdeau and his doctors were also trying out some things to avoid the surgery (injections, other methods).
