Well that explains a lot.

Is this better for the tank, or worse?

He did it out of the sheer, selfless goodness of his heart, because he knew there were posters on CP who would pine away if they didn’t have a whipping boy.

Its likely something where he can play through the pain and they let him play to a point until the recovery timeline dictates it won’t overlap with training camp next season.

My Mom, 85 years old, just had double hip replacement surgery.

She never played hockey again. Just saying.

At least this opens up some cap so Conny can buy before the deadline.

Well, maybe this partially explains why he's been so bad this season.

If they trade Coleman, Kadri, some depth players.. there isn't much more they can do to set the team up to lose as much as possible after the break.

Maybe Cooley can go to the AHL and win a championship there

This was the kind of announcement I have been expecting to come out on Weegar. It does explain a lot, but not expecting a bounce (?) back season for Huberdeau. Although, not sure how much worse it could get.

Does this prevent us from dealing one of the other bigger contracts? We must be very close to the minimum now

No, Huberdeau’s salary still counts against the cap. The team could go over the cap by placing him on LTIR, but obviously that’s not a consideration at the moment.

I don't know. I'm not a medical expert but having close relations to some I do know that there are viable treatment plans to help a person avoid surgery, to keep going through their daily routines and to minimize pain. At the end of the day, the person dealing with the injury gets to choose what happens to their body. Perhaps he believed that rehab while still playing was going to work out for him maybe even in spite of advise from his medical team. At the end of the day it came to a point where he felt he couldn't avoid it anymore.
