Seriously though, if Backs plays like this and cashes his 45 points for the next 3 years, he is golden. He had a stretch at the beginning of the year where he looked like ass, but this is vintage Backlund right here.

So, all that is to say... Trade his ass! (Tongue and cheek not really though)
Tongue in cheek because it's a random list from a random source with random data that I can't confirm.

But he is 11th in the NHL for forwards in xGA60.

Elite shut down guy that is no way ready to be demoted to the fourth line.

There has to have been a couple of seasons in which Backlund should have won the Selke. He is always provides elite-level defence.

Can you imagine how good his career KHL numbers would look if he had been playing in that league for the last 8 years?

If not for Bergeron being as close to a “generational defensive forward” as there could be if there is such a thing, and playing in the west, I think he would have won it 2-3 times for sure.

If you look at his stats over the years he's been incredibly consistent. At 36 years old he's on pace for 40 points which is what he's done year after year while facing difficult matchups.

That's my argument - he has been overlooked.

I remember him having much harder deployment than Bergeron did. Forgot who posted that years ago, but it made me think those Selkes were coming just like they did for Lidstrom when people started feeling he had been overlooked for a while.

Anyway, love Backlund. Never complains, just comes in and does his job, and does it well and consistently.
