Regardless of the contract amount, this is a show-me year for Pelletier. And he needs to be in camp, to have a chance to get off to a good start. If he misses any time, it could be disastrous for his career.
Standing firm for a few hundred K, or to avoid a two-way, and missing any camp time as a result, would be incredibly short-sighted of him

He needs to pass through waivers to go down, so I assume that's not an issue.

I think it's reasonable to assume that he might spend some time with the Wranglers this year, so a two-way is very much an issue, because he would earn less while with them.
I suspect that is exactly what the sticking point is.

So you think they will waive him in the hopes he won't be claimed. I think that if they do, they will lose him

Taking a while to get to 5000

Not sure what team wants to inherit an RFA due for a contract that wants more than he's worth but maybe?

There's a bunch of RFAs who haven't signed. Not too worried either way about Pelts.
He can be traded from an organizational position of strength if it comes to it.

I'm pretty sure he is. Either he will play for the Flames, or they will waive him and whoever claims him will have to play him or risk losing him. No way every team passes on claiming him if the Flames try to send him down.

Not sure why people are so confident that he gets claimed.
He is a 23 year old, 5'9 winger with 10 points in 37 NHL games.
I don't know if there is a big line for a guy like that.

I think with his AHL pedigree somebody would take a flyer, just like they did with Valimaki.
Honestly would be foolish for Flames to waive him with some other guys like Rooner/Duehr...even Lomberg that should get waived first.
We know what those guys are, they aren't going to help this team 2+ years from now. Pelletier could, and that needs to be the focus. Not neccessarily who makes us better today, but who makes us better in 2026 onwards

But Juuso was a 6'2, 205 pound dman which is the type of player teams are looking for.

I feel like the context behind Pelletiers stats isn't really being considered in the argument that nobody would want him.
I don't know what his value is around the league. But I suspect it's still okay.
We will see.

It only takes a single team to like him enough and has a spot for him. If he gets claimed, that is bad asset management.
Presumably, Conroy has some intel - more than us, at least - on what other teams think of Pelletier.

Seems like some players are getting bad advice from their agents.

The Flames should not risk him to waivers without seeing what he can bring.
From that perspective, what is the risk in giving him a 1 way contract?
From the same perspective, if Pelletier's objective is to play in the NHL he should sign a one year, two way contract. IF the Flames were to risk sending him down, he should be confident that another team will give him a shot. He should ensure he is not missing camp no matter what.
If either party is digging in their heels, then they are both being dumb.

Agreed.
Although I would also suggest that the Flames are also creating unnecessary tension with a potential long term asset. Short term gain, long term pain was the Treliving MO with RFA contracts...have the Flames learnt from their mistakes??

Nope let's stop losing our first round picks for nothing.. Let's give him a chance, let him prove it this year without injury.. No more Valamaki/Bennett/ etc etc
