Treliving should realize what a red flag it is to find yourself in a bidding war with Benning and Holland and rethink his move

He played a fair bit with Iginla in Colorado. Maybe Conroy could get Iginla to sell him on the Flames.

Meaning that he's still doing it? Or not doing it well?
He certainly hasn't stopped adding Tanev and Markstrom last year.
But I went through signings and the last bad one was Neal in July of 2018 right? That's three years.
That could mean a lesson learned.
I don't mind Tanev, Markstrom, Talbot, or the depth signings in recent years.
Hopefully the Brouwer/Neal stuff is behind this organization.

Landeskog > Hall. Landeskog brings skill, grit, leadership and heart. Hall brings nothing but a pouty face if he isn't scoring.

Hall brings first overall picks. You forgot that.

Landeskog also played 850 even strength minutes
524 with both mackinnon and rantanen
142 with rantanen
85 with mackinnon
99 with neither
His number are very bad with neither and that’s a ton of minutes with all 3. Over 60%. I would pass on him unless he really wants to be a flame and signs for a reasonable deal

So is Hyman. And Hyman is cheaper. And a right shot.

I don’t know landeskog is an option but he will likely cost even more than Hyman. Hyman may be Treliving’s only shot at a big fish this offseason.
I also think the oilers will be just as aggressive. Holland got out-bidded by treliving in the Markstrom sweepstakes last summer. He’ll probably be willing to add that extra year or that extra million to prevent that from happening again.

He’s the type of player we need but his numbers are high due to playing with 2 other elite players might in and night out. Both those 2 seems to play good with or without landeskog which makes me a bit fun shy to pay him what his numbers say he should get.
Some on here are suggesting mackinnon is the best player on the planet and he is the type that elevates his line mates play.
Our players have been labelled as players who aren’t this good. It’s a risk that he’s overrated playing with arguably the best player on the planet

I would love to have Hyman on the Flames, but not on the contract he's going to get. He's going to get way too much money for way too many years.

Honestly he makes sense as a player for either Vancouver (takes JT Miller's spot with Boeser and Pettersson, moves Miller to 3C to give them some depth, probably with Podkolzin) or Edmonton (would be an excellent complement to a 2nd line centered by Leon so that he doesn't have to do all the heavy lifting). But Vancouver cannot come close to affording him. Edmonton could.

I’m always a bit nervous about acquiring the third best player on a line. I keep remembering the Oilers and Dustin Penner.

I think so. He has to shake up the roster and I think he’s trying to add to the team. So it’s likely either through trade (which costs players/prospects/picks) or through free agency (which costs more cap space for what you are getting). I think he prefers the latter.

I bet he's just hoping to drive up the price for one of the others.

I really hope the Flames don't 'win' this.
Yes, he would make the Flames better. I mean, we are looking at Brett Ritchie on the top line under Sutter after all. Hyman would push him down.
Is Hyman a good player? Yes, he most certainly is. Are his numbers inflated by playing with very good players in TO? Absolutely they are. Could he get those same numbers playing alongside Gaudreau and either Monahan or Lindholm? I think he could.
But for how many years?
No, I think it is a huge mistake signing this player to a 7 (or 8 with a sign & trade, which I point out has never happened yet) year deal. He is a crash and bang player with reasonable hands and good hockey sense, but the strength of his game comes from his wheels. They will fall off in the coming years with his crash and bang style. He doesn't have that skill to compensate.

Did anyone want to commit to Ferland at a 7 year deal? Seems like the same idea to me. Hopefully Treliving stays away.

How can Edmonton even compete for his services? Lol.
Maybe extend your free agents first and then see if you have enough change to by a stick of bubble gum, let alone a Zack Hyman.

These guys shell out whoppers for Beagle and give up assets for 38 year old 5.5M Keith.
Yeah, back away and run.
