Ive been KO'd a few times in my days....and it was pretty natural (that i recall) that when i came to enough to realize where/what was going on, my first instinct was to get up off the ice/ground.

I think thats what Tavares did there.

He was doing his best to stabilize the neck. The worst thing to do in a spinal injury is to force someone down and put force onto their neck. The primary concern should be to offer support and to keep the head in a neutral position as much as possible

No laughing matter but Simmonds’ “do it for Johnny” is pretty Outsiders.

Yeah, but it might have been the right thing to do in this case. If the Leafs’ bench didn’t clearly see what happened and assumed Perry did something to Tavares that put him in that state, things could’ve gotten very ugly. Instead, he fought Foligno right away, got taken off the ice for a while, and by now the Leafs will have seen the replay and figured out that nothing untoward happened.

In a vacuum, a fight under those circumstances is silly, but if it helps ensure that the rest of the series will be hockey instead of UFC, I’ll take it.

Yeah fair enough....just actually felt bad for Perry at that moment because i think he was already feeling pretty bad about it all.

But true, if it avoids malicious retaliation, best get it done that way and immediately.

It’s no different then when Tkachuk fought Wheeler last year. A questionable player injures your captain for likely the rest of the series intentional or not someone is going to come for you. Don’t understand all the pearl clutching in here. Perry was a willing combatant.

I've always liked Hall & Oates but that is a dumb goal song.

Hate that I'm cheering for the budz, but here we are.

A season so bad it has me going against my life long allegiances.

Just saw the injury. I hate Perry’s guts but that was 100% unintentional.

Actually i dont think thats true....he did it because he had to, but im sure if he had a choice he would have preferred not to.

Perry sure tried to get out of the way at the last moment...but sure didn’t seem to try to get out of the way at the moment before the last moment

Anyone who thinks there was even a sliver of intent by Perry on that play...

Give your head a shake.

Just no.

I’m sure Perry has never gone after an unwilling combatant or someone who truly didn’t wanna drop the gloves with him….. I sure do feel bad for him……

#### happens. For clearly accidental and and clean hits, the players that caused the collision shouldn't have to fight at all. The NHL/refs need to have more balls in calling instigators for that ####. It's dumb, and it just discourages hitting players (especially good ones), which I mean what's the ####ing point of body checking being legal if the players don't want it it to be.

Don't penalize the stuff that fans actually want to see. Body checking is part of the game, and legal ones shouldn't be discouraged.

I do.
I’d love to have Perry on my team, thought it was important to lead off with this statement. But his nickname amongst his team mates and friends is literally Worm cause he finds ways to always be right in the grit of the game. He’s made a career off of questionable play and injuring guys. In this scenario he doesn’t get the presumption of innocent cause of his mile long track record. I however do not believe he had any intent.

Montreal talked about prior to the game they had the advantage in toughness and minutes in your captain is knocked out of the game and possibly season. Foligno came out and wanted to set the tone and I have no issue with that. Perry’s a big boy. He fought Tkachuk last season off of a face off trying to do the same thing last year.

His save on Marner just now was one of the best saves I’ve ever seen.
