Keep in mind we have the luxury of replays. Doubt the players in that setting were doing that. They saw real time, and Perry being involved. We are getting the replay fed to us constantly, so we can make out or take a better stab at intent.

Impossible to know if Perry tried his best to get out of the way. It being Perry you will never know for sure, but it was so quick so it's hard to blame him.

No. Not in a million years. It was a freak accident. I dislike Perry as much as the next guy, but to think there was intent on that play? Come on, get real.

Unless they aren’t using the jumbotron, practically the first thing players do these days is look up at the replay.

They also have iPads galore on the bench.

Fair. I just saw many leafs jump out on the ice and focus on Tavares. Matthews was holding his head down too as were other players. It is an emotional moment when you don’t know what has just happened and what is happening. Not saying it excuses them, but can definitely think they are fired up and pissed off. Perry has been notorious for taking liberties. This doesn’t appear to be intentional at all, but emotionally speaking, it can be tough to separate that.

Sorry, my wording wasn’t clear. We actually agree. I posed the question the wrong way.

TBF, jumbotron would have been slo-mo which makes Perry look more guilty.

I feel bad for Perry in all this too. Has to be wretched having to go through that.

Circumstances also don't help:

Our star player gets knocked down.
Perry who has a reputation knees him in the head while he's down and helpless.

Oh definitely. Sorry didn’t make it clear. Perry being involved probably leads many players to automatically think intentional.

Heck even if it was intentional (which I don’t think it was), Perry probably would have been as shaken as he actually was. No one wants to cause that sort of injury out of their action.

Perry having to answer the bell there is one of the dumbest, most embarrassing things in all of hockey. Things that make the league look bush league........Exhibit A right there.

Yeah answering for clean hits is stupid....having to answer for unintentional hits is effing absurd.

There is no way that was intentional by Perry in my opinion. It was an unfortunate collision where Perry was in motion and had no where to go and no way to avoid the collision.

Was Tavares just trying to fight and stand up? That was scary to see.
I watched it again from a medical perspective and he was stabilizing his neck the entire time. Tavares was likely just completely out of it and dazed trying to get up.

It's honestly a weird thing to watch. At first he looks KO'd, then he appears to have the wherewithal to hold his head in place to support his neck (which is scary), but then he's so out of it he can't manage to stay balanced enough to stay upright even on his knees.

Yeah, just weird to see them let Tavares try and get up at all. Typically in these head/neck injuries that could be very serious they force the player to stay motionless on the ice until they can properly stretcher them off.
