And yes, refs need to do a better job calling the first penalty.

How is that a sucker punch? I could’ve seen that coming from a mile away.

being pissed about goalies taking abuse and understanding that the punch warranted a suspension are different things. I love that Lucic stood up for his teammate and sent a message. But he still deserves to sit for punching a guy in the face.

Side note, that kid sucks at skating....
He trips in the clip. He tripped with the puck earlier in the slot. Maybe he was just trying to use his stick to stop?

So does that mean the next time Drew Pouty's babysitter punches Tkachuk in the face, there will be supplemental discipline on the Kings? Whatever. Let's see what happens. I have ZERO faith in the DPHS to be consistent.

Perhaps if the referees had done their jobs and called the slash/spear, Lucic wouldn't have had to do what he did. Absolutely terrible explanation. Player does illegal act. Refs don't call the illegal act. Teammate exacts punishment. Throw the book at him.

1 game for the punch, 1 game for his contract.

It does seem like there are a different standard. At the end of the day I am fine with it.

According to the game summary Sherwood was called for the slash.

The way things go for the Flames we'll now be the first team to get a suspension under the league's new directive to punish stick infractions on goalies.

Well, at least you didn't completely exaggerate...
One gloved punch does not equal CTE -- as in chronic traumatic encephalopathy

We can't know that for sure. Either way it was a pretty hefty sucker punch and I have no problem with Lucic sitting for 2. Right call, IMO.

The guy is now completely useless for the team moving forward but a great big chunk of salary cap. As I said at the time....franchise crippling as far as salary cap implications go.
Only 3 3/4 more years!!!!
This may end up being the worst single trade in Flames history when the implications of the money ties up in him, his "ability" to play the game, and what it does during the clubs window to compete are all added together.
|
Are you missing the fact that the trade saved the Flames money and moved out a malcontent who provided less to the Flames bottom 6...

Oh good. I was hoping another thread would turn into a Lucic/Neal trade and performance thread. Those are the best.
