We'll likely know what we have in four or five years. Probably going to be at least another two in junior, then two to three in the minors before getting promoted. They need some skill in the organization, so hopefully Pelletier can fill that gap. It would have been nice of he was four to six inches taller. The journey begins!
Wanted Lavoie myself, but don't hate this pick either. Plays with intensity. Not very fast but smart and skilled 2 way player that's hard to play against. Marchand comparable, enough said
In the same boat. Ok, with the pick, hope he adds an inch or two in height and at least 20lbs.
Speaking of playoff performers, Lavoie had 20 goals in 23 playoff games this season -- so there's that. He's still on the board, so if Tre still wants him...

If he was 4 inches taller he probably goes top 10 though. Hard to find a guy in the 20s without warts.

#Flames GM Treliving on Pelletier: “Elite compete and elite hockey sense, and those are two thing we value greatly. He’s very productive, he has skill, but he has hard skill. He goes to the hard areas. The DNA of this kid is a high, high motor and just ultra, ultra competitive.”
More #Flames Treliving on Pelletier: “He had a pretty bad ankle injury in the playoffs and a lot of people are telling him ‘Don’t go to the Under-18s. You’re hurt, it probably won’t help your draft stock.’ There were a few expletives and he said, ‘I’m going to the Under-18s.’ ”
This quote ended with ... “Those are the kind of guys you want to have.”
#Flames GM Treliving on Jakob Pelletier: “His jersey needs to get washed at the end of the game because it’s a little bit filthy. He scores goals in hard areas. It’s not perimeter. He plays inside. And he’s been productive. But again, he is a guy who is going to need some time.”

I really like that the guy has high compete. Outscored Lavoie in the same league and has a better motor than Kaliyev. Some concerns about size but we've been pretty good when it comes to drafting and developing smaller players.
Time will tell.
Pelletier struggled in the QMJHL playoffs while Lavoie dominated. Not saying it's a bad pick, just that I think we're selling Lavoie short.
His 50 assists also show that he is an above-average playmaker. Pelletier has some flaws, mainly his skating, but he makes up for it with his compete-level and versatility—he is capable of playing all three forward positions and kills penalties while being a team leader in points.

#Flames GM Brad Treliving on LW Jakob Pelletier (five foot nine, 165 pounds): "He's going to thicken up, right? He's got some ass on him, he's got some legs on him. He'll widen up. He's going to do whatever it takes."

Thicc. Treliving all about that cake.

Corey Pronman said of Pelletier, “He has all the tools you want minus his size”. Despite that praise, he was ranked 24th. In today’s NHL, does size still matter so much that a player with top 5 skill will end up in the latter half of the first round?
Manny’s model selects Sam Steel, Logan Brown, Matt Puempel, Travis Konecny, and Logan Couture as Pelletier’s comparables. Good company there.
A playmaker, Pelletier’s greatest strengths are his vision, creativity and skating. He’s a game-breaking offensive talent that is conscious of his defensive play.
Like Pronman said, Pelletier has everything but size. In today’s NHL, can’t we disregard that and recognize him as the top ten talent that he is?
