I dunno, doesn't really sound like that to me. Sounds more like it was a big deal for both sides.

I could be wrong, but I don't think getbak was posting his own sudden alarm. Rather, I read his post as anticipating the type of overreaction we have come to expect on the forum to news bites such as this. He is probably not wrong about that.

We can report that Hayes has a full NMC in first 3 years (protects from expansion), and then a 12 Team No Trade clause for the remaining years.

With Courturier at #1C and Hayes at #2C (or vice versa) this pushes Nolan Patrick down to #3C at best. I would be all over Philly trying to see if I could pry him out of there, he could get sick of this situation real quick now that they have gone dollars in on Hayes.

Patrick was outscored by Derek Ryan last year he is at best a 3C.
I could see Philly moving him if a team made a compelling offer. I just wouldn’t want the Flames to be that team unless they wanted to do something like Patrick for Brodie but there is no shot there

That’s pretty harsh. Patrick is a super young NHLer. The best is likely yet to come and there are reasons he was taken top two. To judge him as a finished product would usually be to make a massive mistake in your analysis.

I think it's pretty crazy that Hayes makes more than Johnny, when Johnny is nearly doubling him up in points/ game
