Didnt you just finish telling me he was 2nd on the Flames last year in high scoring chances bubbs?
The fact he converted next to none of those has to somehow be his linemates and coaches faults too right?
Come to think of it howd he come 2nd on the team for those chances with such pylons for linemates.
Lotsa coast to coasts for sure.
Nice argument.

To summarize this thread. Bennett didn't get traded because he couldn't yield a first round pick, because he's a ####ty player because he hasn't played with good enough linemates which is all GGs fault?
Give me a break....

Hey perhaps you just haven't followed the nhl long enough to understand the typical player progression. If a player isn't a top line player in their first few seasons like Monahan, Gaudreau, tkatchuk, well what a frigin bust... Lol

No no please dont sidestep the question.
If his linemates and coaches were the problem howd he end up, by your own writing, with the 2nd most scoring chances on the team?
Accordingly since he had that many chances, whos fault was it that close to none of those were converted?
I await your grand hockey knowledge.

Giving a guy who you want to be your top or second line centre only third line minutes and third line instructions for 2 seasons has slowed his progress but I’d wager he becomes an excellent nhler. If not it’s not like I can really hide with him in my avatar.

This is a load of crap.
You know who doesn't need better coaching or better linemates? Good players that's who.

It feels like Monahan and Gaudreau are the only Flames the media didn't trade the last couple of days.

Perhaps it just doesn't all click all at once for a kid trying to gain offensive confidence. Perhaps missing on a chance and then the next avalanches on a kid already dealing with pressure and confidence issues.
He looked like a COMPLETELY different player in the ducks series in his first year. I definitely feel that the flames did the kid no favours in helping his progression. He looked fine in his second season playing on Backlund's line. Yet the past 2 years being held responsible in driving his owm line with Brouwer, Hathaway, rookie Jankowski, and shockingly, not persevering....
Hopefully we get a 3rd rounder to appease the masses tomorrow.

What a relief we didn't sell low just because Bennett hasn't yet lived up to his draft pedigree. Remember, this past season he was the same age as Calder winner Barzal, and lost a year of development to surgery/rehab. Hopefully we won't trade him for a 2nd or 3rd rounder either. Lazar (when he was still a Senator) is the kind of player you trade a 2nd or 3rd rounder for, taking a flyer on someone you feel is underachieving in their current situation, on the outside chance you can turn a diamond in the rough into a true gem.
Outside of the top two, no player in this year's draft would have been an improvement on Bennett this coming season, and the Flames' window to contend is now. There's little benefit in trading decent roster players, regardless of how they had previously projected, for uncertain futures, unless you are blowing up the current core and signing up for the draft lottery race.

Please point out which Flames did succeed with Brouwer, Hathaway and Lazar as linemates.

Unfortunately this thread has broken down into a "I know what I'm talking about and you know nothing" thread between a few posters but for the record I am still a big proponent of Bennett.
It is a thing that the fourth year is often the breakout year for young players and I am not willing to give up on him until we see if he is one of them. It would be awesome if he was put with Backlund and Frolik (Tkachuk first line RW maybe) to help this happen but whatever the situation I want to keep him.
If by the trade deadline things are still not going well use him as a package piece to get something else. He will have lost more value sure, but you got to take a risk/reward approach with some highly-skilled young players, That is still a form of asset management.
