Sportsnet 960 speculating Willie Desjardins just a few minutes ago...I think they were suggesting he is the veteran name that can run the PP. However, I don't really like the results he got out of the Canucks PP from 2014-2015 to 2016-2017. Granted, the talent he coached in 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 was horrible, but the 2014-2015 Canucks PP also pales in comparison to the PP Paul MacLean coached in his first season with Anaheim.

Is there another reason to think Desjardins would be good?

Really hope he isn't one of the coaches. Not a fan of going from GG to his mentor.

Not surprised if true he fits the (Veteran coach) Flames love hiring mediocre people.

This is the only one I can think of.

At the same time, Sportsnet 960 was asked not to reveal the name. So its possible mentioning Desjardins actually rules him out, right? This is the case unless the Sportsnet 960 guys just screwed up, their instructions have changed, or what they said does not qualify as revealing the name. I, for one, would argue the most likely conclusion is that Desjardins is not the veteran PP hire.

**** me, would I ever be disappointed if we ended up with Peters, Huska, and Willie D behind the bench. That’s asking fans to ignore a whole lot of history of mediocrity, when we just saw how far that got us with Gulutzan and Cameron.

Hopefully just the crew spitballing and not a precursor to soften some upcoming news...

This is as far as I got before I mentally quit on this post. If this happens, I'm seriously going to wonder WTF is going on with the flames. Everyone deserves a second chance, but why is it that the flames are the ones giving it to them?

Boomer said he was told and wouldn't share the name. Not the whole station.

Yeah, I guess I'm assuming Boomer represents the station and that if the Flames don't want Boomer sharing the hire, they don't want anyone sharing the hire. Right?

Yes, and furthermore, Desjardins name was thrown out as a "what do you think of this guy?" type scenario, not a "I've heard something regarding Willie and the Flames." They thought that Willie is due to return to coaching and that since Willie has turned down a WHL head coaching job recently maybe they'd talk about the merits of Willie D as an assistant coach for a team that is looking for assistant coaches.

I would assume this to mean also that Molberg has not divulged the name to any of his co-workers.

If we end up with Desjardins and Huska as assistant coaches that will be the final straw for me as far as BT goes.

I was just thinking this. It would also make me so unexcited for the upcoming season.

All you guys bashing the idea of Willie being one of the assistant coaches have no idea what this guy is all about. The Calgary Flames would be darn lucky to have a guy like him behind the bench.Look at the team he had to work with in Vancouver you cant judge him based off of that.Even with Babcock or Quenneville behind the bench that team would have missed the playoffs.Willie is a legend in Med Hat where he coached the Tigers for many years. He made the Tigers a contender year after year and ever since he left the team has been in a downward spiral. He took the Tigers to the memorial cup and then won a Calder Cup with the Texas Stars.Ask any Medicine Hat Tiger fan and they will have nothing but good to say about him.If the Flames hired him as an assistant coach I would be absolutely over the moon and will just about guarantee the Flames will be back in the playoffs next year. Treliving will be an absolute genius if he brings Willie to Calgary,PLEASE MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!!!

I think the Flames could do much worse than Desjardins. He has won two WHL championships and one AHL championship.
