i typed out a whole comment here that hathaway and glass fill different roles given that glass is in a different weight class and can get into it with the majority of the big boys around the league.

then i looked up each player and noticed that Hathaway and glass are not all that different in size!

Hathaway: 6' 2", 208 lb
Glass: 6' 1", 213 lb

Found that a bit shocking. I always thought Hathaway was a bit under sized (ie. 6' or under).

Interesting... the press release says they have assigned Gazdic to Stockton, but no mention of Hathaway.

I think it is a bit of a chess game Treliving is playing. Bottom line a bunch of teams need to settle on their rosters. They have a bunch of days before they have to declare their intentions with Hathaway. Wouldn't surprise me to see Jankowski sent down in a paper transaction to be brought up again after things clear up.

Glass outplayed those guys badly and certainly deserved this deal. If a guy like Hathaway can float through a pre-season and still be on an NHL roster that is when you have a problem. A guy busting his ass through camp and getting a 650k contract to potentially play on the fourth line is a good thing.

if he plays well, great for the Flames. if he plays terribly, great for the Flames because it will hopefully be another nail in the non-functional truculent PTO coffin.
