That's the thing, I assume a big part of it was just being a pro. I'm sure he was excited to move on from Carolina but there's no telling whether he was actually excited about Calgary, it's just something you say.
He now has an opportunity to sign with anyone in the league and I'm sure that's exciting enough.

I feel bad for the kid. Being traded must suck but at least you can tell yourself that the team you are being traded to obviously likes and wants you. Not in this case though. He finds out that not only do the Canes want to be rid of him, but the Flames didn't want him either and only took him because they had to in order to get the player they were really targeting. Plus he expresses his excitement publicly at a new opportunity before finding out.
As if that's not bad enough, all of this is played out in the public eye for everyone to see.

Too bad. Guy will likely either be Europe or AHL bound.

Completely irrelevant, but I'm curious. Feaster was talking about utilizing cap space and strong owners' support to their advantage years ago. As far as I can remember, the Flames have not actually made a move like this until now. Is this the first trade where the Flames took somebody's cap junk for added trade value?

Looks like he will be joining a team very soon
Michael Russo @Russostrib
Further to this, Ryan Murphy to #mnwild is "very possible," per source

Happy for the guy, hard 24-48 hours there but he has lots of hockey left. Good for him!

Stephen Whyno @SWhyno
Ryan Murphy, traded by Canes Friday, put on buyout waivers by Flames Saturday, signed by Wild to one-year two-way deal $700K/$350K.

Worked out for him.
With his buyout money, if he sticks in the NHL all season, he'll make more than he would have before the buyout. If he spends the year in the AHL, he won't make much less.
