I thought the Kane goal was pretty deceptive too. It cam from fairly far out but right from the defenceman's feet. Almost every goal came when it looked like the player was tied up.

This would be the season the Flames mail it in, an expansion year with the worst 1st overall pick in 5 years.

Is this the most frustrating season to date? At least previous teams lacked talent in from top to bottom on the depth chart. On paper we compare with some of the best teams in the league.

We tried Versteeg and then Chaisson on the top line and nothing is clickin. Maybe it's time to bring up Shinkarauk and give him a chance.

Missed the game tonight, saw it was tied 1-1 almost half way through the third, see the final score is 5-1 Hawks.
So how we all doing? Full on panic mode?

man, what an frustrating game to watch. Flames play a decent game for 2 periods but then a bad call against, crappy PK again, and the will gone.
- giordano and brodie both look terrible. Brodie just can't be our PP qb, his decision making offensively, his first reaction is just not good enough. not to mention he's part of the highlight reel getting completely burned on the 1st and 3rd goals. I'm really disappointed in what's happened to this kid. He looks brutal out there.
- it's funny how monahan/gaudreau took so long trying to maximize the $$$ yet both look like utter garbage this season. Monahan has been the worst center on the team, bennett, backlund, stajan have all created more, and done more than him. gaudreau has just been lost. dipsy doodling right into traffic, an extremely frustrated player.
- chiasson shouldn't be on the top line. I really think they should try versteeg back there. He's been playing with some mojo, have liked his game. He has the offensive instincts and hands to play with gaudreau.
- special teams again the difference in my opinion. Flames can't score a single PP goal, and though they did get a SH goal, it was the PK goal on the bennett penalty that did them in.
- officiating was pretty lousy. Missed call on gaudreau in the 1st, the hit on giordano (immediately followed by gio holding the stick), then the atrocious call on bennett in the 3rd.
- oh and that timing of pulling the goaltender was piss poor, on the coaching, or the play by gio and co. on the ice, whoever, but man was that ugly.
this was a game the flames should have come out with at least a point, but instead got hammered on the scoresheet and goals against 5-1.

Yeah, haven't paid much attention to who's playing well on the farm, but surely there has to be someone with a decent shot of making something happen.

Strip Monahan of the A and staple it to Backlund.

I wouldn't mind seeing
Gaudreau - Bennett - Brouwer
Ferland - Monahan - Versteeg
Tkachuk -Backlund - Frolik
Bouma - Stajan - Chiasson
Gio - Brodie
Jokipakka - Hamilton
Kulak - Engelland
IMO Brodie needs to get back to the right side - it's just not working on the left.

He looked terrible on the pp and was directly responsible for 2 goals. If that's better then maybe he's been worse than I thought.

Losing faith in this coaching staff. This stinks a lot like the Regher/Phaneuf BS from near a decade ago if you ask me.

Dammit Gulutzan, you're doing it wrong. You're supposed to split up Gaudreau - Monahan and keep Gio - Brodie together, not the other way around.

I find it frustrating that our forwards are still struggling with finding their finish. Passes off and players out of position makes it hard to score when you have forward pressure during the game.
Gaudreau has no confidence and seems to be trying to do it all himself.
Your top 2 lines should be your best but it looks bad when the bottom 2 are your best on most nights.

He was doing it right with the other lines it seems. Maybe it's not the lines and the players.

For all the trashing of guys like Monahan, Dougie, and Engelland. They have 3 GWG's.

Backlund should've been the 1st line C for the past 2 or 3 games already IMO.
Monahan is pooping the bed hard and could use sheltered minutes and easier competition to actually contribute out there.

Great idea but I am afraid the coaches just want to keep experimenting with their current choices. If they don't find some answers soon it will likely be too late.

I'm starting to think the problem is Johnny and Monahan themselves now.
