Pulkkinen can't skate well enough at the NHL level to use his shot. AHL goals don't mean much trust me on that one.
I certainly have no standing to argue with a former NHL player, but as someone that still watches a lot of Wings games and used to watch a lot of Griffins games, I feel like the problem is that when he gets called up, he feels like it is his role to shoot as much as humanly possible. He ends up taking a lot of bad shots because he is supposed to be the sniper. Like he has this stereotype that he feels he has to live up to or something.

Then again I am a pretty bad judge of skating I guess. I thought Adam Pardy was the worst skater in the history of the world watching him in 07-08 and he at least turned that into 300+ NHL games!

That shot, needed on the Flames top line. He's no worse a skater than M.Granlund.

I think he got injured before the trade deadline...hurt his neck, maybe that hurt his value a little.

I don't know if they tried to re-sign him this offseason but he probably figured he had a pretty good season last year and would rather sign with a playoff contender and not have to go through the trade deadline with a bottom feeder. But looks like that didn't work out!

Last year I remember him being quite quick so I don't know if he is comparable to Glencross. Isn't Glencross really slow?

I tend to agree with O'Sullivan, but I think he would find plenty of time and space to get that wicked shot off if he were to slot in on our top line.

There's no way Pulkkinen is getting past the grease. They just traded Yak and they'll think that the return is now Pulkkinen, Russell, a 2nd, and that scrub.

Condra is a great depth guy. He'd be a good pickup.

By the looks of it, the Oil look pretty happy with their RW, Puljujarvi and Eberle and Kassian make their top 9. And they like their LW too.

Pulkkinens skating must be pretty bad if Detroit is content with losing both him and Frk for nothing. Would happily take a flyer on him, but I doubt it'll happen.

Flames should claim pulkkinen. Would be fine with pap as well.

If I had to claim one guy it would definitely be PAP. Either he meshes with the top line and puts up 40 points, or he's an effective depth guy.

It would be a big mistake if he gets past the Flames.

All the reports I read on him today suggest he just needs a centre that can think the game as good or better than him

Like Monahan

Like Monahan
I just find the move odd. I was reading reports just yesterday saying it looked like he had a spot all wrapped up. Man I sincerely hope the Flames claim him. Gaudreau/Monahan/Pulkkinen would be a cerebral and deadly scoring line.

Forget about Pulkkinnen. Parenteau would be an even better stopgap for that 1st line RW spot. He's almost the exact same player as Hudler

BT better get on that

Could Pulkkinen be like Mike Hoffman, who also has a very good shot? who didn't break out until he was 25?

So, if Pulkkinen is such a sure thing deadly top line player, why would a team (with middling depth on the wing themselves) be offering him up for free?

People get way too excited about these waiver wire players.

If PAP can still put up 20 goals then what are we waiting for? All current options for the 1RW are worse. Or could allow for Brouwer to be moved up to the top line.

Wouldn't hate a Pulkkinen pickup either.

Out of curiosity, is there a waiting period between when players on the waiver wire are announced and when a team can start putting in claims? If not then surely we would have heard some news already on *our new potential top-line RW*!!
