excellent deal
Treliving continues to impress me this off-season.

I think all those who were mad at the 3-headed goalie last year can safely take those thoughts and stuff it for now.

lol. Colborne and Chiasson are in entirely different roles.

Your statement is no less silly than if you argued Gaudreau has no leverage because of this.

When I scratch out the potential lineup, I still include a "?" at the top RW spot. Great to have Elliott and add Chiasson as depth but I don't want another year of Ferland getting top 6 rotation minutes.

How? Chaisson had 14 points last year in 4 more games, to Colborne's 44 points. Not sure how this would effect him

Looked at his stats a little deeper and he was buried in the defensive zone by Ottawa- sub 38% offensive zone starts. Which is ridiculously low.

Chiasson addresses a depth need for this team and is a real good "buy low" option.

Now this team has another natural RWer, they addressed the goaltending and drafted a guy with skill and a big game. Now they just need to go after a RW to play with Monahan and Gaudreau in UFA.

They aren't going to risk binding arbitration with Colborne now. At least I don't think they should.

So Ottawa didn't want him back at all? Didn't want him back at $1.2M and Chiasson wouldn't do the same deal there? Ottawa didn't think to ask if he'd accept less?

I think Colborne is going to get traded soon too. They might just let Jooris walk if there's no real interest in him, if there is I hope he's traded.

I'm pretty excited for Chiasson, to me taking less on his QO means he's probably going to really try and prove something this year IMO.

800k?! Amazing deal.

I see Chiasson as a cheaper, younger Raymond. Excellent price, and good trade, but I really don't see a fit here. Maybe I just haven't watched him as much.

He seemed to thrive under Gulutzan in Dallas, maybe he'll regain that form. However, I don't see his stint here lasting over a year.

His name has been on the trade market for awhile, I think back to last year's offseason.

I think both sides wanted a fresh start

Who knows what Chaisson might do if given the opportunity in Calgary? He was buried in Ottawa. The Flames can't afford to add another 3m 3rd liner to the mix. Even if Chaisson isn't quite as good, he is a much better use of cap space in the same role.
