At best we have a player who'll have a career-high of 18 points in a season? Those are pretty low assumptions.

But to each his own I guess.

All you're doing is arguing semantics at this point, vehemently opposed to what I'm considering the term stylistic to encompass. Everyone has similarities and differences, but there have been a multitude of similarities drawn between these two players by a lot of respected people over several years now.

It's not so much you disagreeing, it's the smug dismissal like your opinion is factual. But yea, to each their own.

This is just going in circles now, so I'll leave it at that.

Probably a lot closer than projecting him to be a hall of fame, 500 goal, 1000 point player just because they were born on the same country

Saying something this crazy should get the poster put in the sin bin. An embarrassment clause of some sort.

Well umm.. the trophies haven't been handed out for this season yet so no one knows who finished 4th. Don't think Monahan will, but it's an odd point to make.

For the record Monahan did finish 20th in his 2nd season.

It is not just "semantics," and what you continue to miss is that virtually all of the things in Monahan's game being positively compared to Toews are on the level of production and character(?). The anecdotal items you have retrieved from Sutter and hockey observers are quite superficial, and do not make the sorts of comparisons that I would expect to be labelled as "stylistic." GrantedEV is absolutely correct in this instance: Monahan is a terrific centre, but plays the position differently than Toews. Even if he does turn out to be as good of a player as Toews, the way he plays the game will still be different. I agree with heep223—Monahan is stylistically more closely comparable to Kopitar. Maybe Sundin? Francis?

He's a bit taller, but Joe Sakic?

Id say Kopitar is the best contemporary example. It's just a nice narrative to have a pair of a small skilled winger and two-way centreman with a serious demeanor compared with Toews and Kane. There aren't a lot (if any) other comparables really, when talking about a tandem. And Kane is really the only comparable to Johnny.

Always digging for a perfect comparable is a fools game.

Agreed. It always bugs me at the draft. All it does is hyperbolize expectations.

"What's his NHL comparable, Pierre?"

"Oh he's a Chris Pronger type for sure."

Really? One of the greatest players ever? For a mid-round defenceman?

Until you realize that 99% of the time it's a stylistic comparable and it doesn't mean that the person doing the comparison is saying (for example) Logan Brown WILL be a clone of Joe Thornton, 1100+ career points and all.

That is not what is meant. It means he plays like Chirs Pronger, not he will be the reincarnation of Chris Pronger.

Totally agree with this post.

Another thought, we should sign Jooris to a 8 year contract as well because, well...

Wayne Gretzky
6'0"
185lbs
Ontario, Canada

Josh Jooris
6'1"
187lbs
Ontario, Canada
