Not a third washroom. Not even two. One. Maybe better privacy options within for individuals who want it (like there are now sometimes with stalls in change-rooms).
|
Whoa, whoa. No, I'm not ok with just one. I'm ok with adding the third option for people to choose. You still have to give the majority an option they are comfortable with. Just because a mixed gender crapper doesn't threaten me, doesn't mean I have to expect everyone else to be OK with it.

It's not about taking criminals/perverts out of the equation, it's about mix-gender rooms where the laws are the same as now. No peeping, leering, masturbating, taking pictures, etc. but men and women are in the same washroom.

Sorry, now you're making even less sense. pylon got it? Which part? The part where your idyllic mixed-gender washroom/change room would have guys pitching more tents than Bass Pro shop? Problem solved? Except he was pretty clear that this would still be a problem.
I get what you're saying but for you to actually mean it you must live in a different world than the rest of us.
Maybe in PepsiFree's totalitarian state all washroom doors come down to the floor and no stall shall have more than 5mm gaps and the bathroom attendant hands you fresh towels, but until PepsiFree takes over and Coke finally reigns supreme we need to be realistic.
In the meantime we should let Alice go through the looking glass while the rest of us try and come up with solutions that apply to this world.
Dont get me wrong, I understand that most people would love to pee on a flying pirate ship but until then we've got to deal with what we've got.

It was really just a crazy theorising. Sorry lol.
Though I do actually think there IS more value in a third mix-gender washroom than there is to letting transgender folks into male/female washrooms (especially in the current American culture and political landscape).
It's a move meant for FAR more progressive societies. You can't just force progress that complex.

Fair enough and I agree, this is a tough battle to fight.
We arent going to win this one overnight.

I respect your postion on this topics as they are your opinion but the less of the population we have who fight against progression the better off the world be.

Most if not all of the public pools/spa's/saunas that I have been to all over western Europe have had 1 giant idyllic change room for everyone. Families, groups of girls, groups of males, gay, straight, trans or whatever. It isn't a big deal here and the people around never make a big deal about it. Contrary to popular belief I haven't seen any weirdoes off in the corners with tents pitched. In NA we are programmed to think separation is needed. It's to late to just change, but a third change room for whomever wants to use it is probably a good start. My wife and I would use it to just share a locker and save a few bucks, not to stare at other people.

LOL, you answer a question meant for me, call me closed minded and a conservative but you don't want to "get into it with me"
I'm laughing so hard I can't stand it!!!!
FYI for your future record:
I'm an atheist and a moderate, I'm probably a little thick skinned in my ways which might make me look like a crazy conservative but really I'm not even close. Reality is I'm over 50 and I have a hard time accepting things like the "freaks" that seem to becoming more common as each year goes by.
If you want me to feel sorry for the terrorists, murderers or even transgenders(that want to hang out in changerooms) of the world your simply asking too much.
Since you don't want a verbal fight I'll leave it at that. cheers!
Edit, just wondering what struck a nerve in my ongoing terrorism thread?

Have any transgendered people actually posted in this thread, or is it still just a whole bunch of people who's opinions don't matter?

Seriously, do people in this thread feel this uncomfortable about gay people using the same change room as you? Someone who is attracted to men could be leering at your naked body!
They could even be leering at the bodies of young boys, and nobody can do anything to stop it!!

Not just in North America. Most of the countries where our immigrants come from are more socially conservative. Some public pools in Canada have women and children only pool times so women and men aren't exposed to each other in pools, or they let women essentially wear clothes in the pool so their bare flesh doesn't put the devil in men's hearts. Tough to imagine the public in those communities getting onboard with open change rooms.

Most public pools these days already have three change rooms: men, women, and family. So are we looking at a fourth?

Most of the people in this thread don't seem to have families or use public pools either. But regardless, public affairs affect us all. And these are public facilities we're talking about.

What a load of complete, total bull####. Everyone's opinions matter; this is totally unaffected by what genitalia you possess or your appearance. What an awful thing to say.
This identity politics crap needs to stop permanently.

The solution is so easy.
Take all public washrooms/change rooms and build individual stalls with a lockable door behind you.
The door has a sign that says washroom or change room and nothing else. No gender labels or otherwise.
Go in, lock the door, do your business and get out. Doesn't matter if you are male, female, transgendered, Klingon or whatever.
Everyone is safe, everyone gets their privacy, and no one gets offended.

It's hard to get a good number for this, but population statistics put the number of people who identify as transgender at 0.3-0.5% of the total population.
http://www.nytimes.com/2015/06/09/up...tion.html?_r=0
That isn't anywhere near a big enough group of people to justify rebuilding all public washrooms to accommodate them, and if you did, would the solution you arrive at actually be any better than "use whichever bathroom/change room you look like you belong in"?

In theory, I like the idea of a third-gender washroom. When I lived in Ottawa, the YMCA close to my apartment had one, but I can't really recall it ever being used.
