This all reminds me of people who wanted to cover their faces to vote out of some sort of protest for the recent election. I don't think people even understand what they are 'protesting' with this vote.

It might be a meaningless event, but if JS plays, I'm definitely tuning in!

I heard someone call the people who are voting for Scott "cry bullies" they think the event is a joke so they are forcing their view on people. It's probably the cool thing to do even for people who don't watch hockey.

I think they should just go back to the league picking who plays and take the choice away from the fans. But then fans will complain that thy don't have a vote to spoil.

Or make it so when you buy a ticket you get a ballot and do fan voting that way. Make it so if people want to see Arizona players they have to go to Arizona games.

To some people it's just a joke but some people actually really like it and I'm sure some players do too, things like this just take it away from those people.

It's like saying "I don't like it so I'm going to ruin it so no one can like it"
I'm sure John Scott loves being in the NHL as well.

It's not like he doesn't work hard, he's in the NHL so obviously he's worked hard to get there. Yes he's the worst guy in the league but it's not like people are voting in some lazy unappreciative bum. They're voting in a talentless bum. Huge difference.

It's a game for fun. Lighten up people.

Where are all the Coyotes votes coming from? Scott is first in the Pacific and Domi is second.

Johnny is third right now. Really, as Flames fans, we should be stuffing the ballots for Johnny. If Scott wins and declines the invitation, Johnny could be next in line to be the team captain if he's second in the Division voting.

@CraigCustance: John Scott says if he's voted in to the All-Star game, he's going. Has no plans to pull a Jagr to slow down voting.

It't funny that really the only thing fans can even recall from previous all-star games was Rory almost making his way in. Other than that the last moment I recall was Owen Nolan's hat trick goal where he pointed top corner on Hasek. When I game is so bereft of importance I can't see why it bothers anyone. It gives the league extra coverage, and fans something to remember 10, 20 years from now. It's just a silly game many players sit out anyway. Let Scott play!

I believe the evidence suggests the NHL cooked the books. Since the league counted only ballots that were entirely filled in, there should have been an equal number of votes cast for hockey's two conferences. But for the week after Christmas, players in the Eastern Conference received 6 percent more votes than those in Fitzpatrick's Western Conference. Among defensemen, the results were even more skewed: The guys in the West—Rory among them—got 16 percent fewer votes overall. (These discrepancies were about three times bigger than any that had come before.) As bloggers were quick to point out, the numbers were exactly what you'd expect to see if the league had manually dumped 100,000 Rory votes. Nothing has been proved, but I'm hard-pressed to come up with another reasonable explanation.

All evidence suggests Fitzpatrick had a ton of illegitimate votes. So it's not really cheating the fans when it was a stuffed ballot.

I can't believe people care about fan voting so much that they care about putting in energy to make this same stupid point every year.

The fan voting is for kids. If you're older than 16 and you actually care this much about it, you are doing life wrong.

If the fans want a roster of john Scott we should get a roster of john Scott's. But most people don't. I personally find it hilarious

That's the thing, isn't it? From what I'm reading, it's not just a matter of hockey fans voting for Scott. A lot of it is jackasses on Reddit who don't even follow hockey, but have nothing better to do than try to break the other kids' toys. And you can be sure that the number of individuals involved is far less than the number of votes Scott has received.

Some people here are braying about democracy. This has nothing to do with democracy. In the first place, the rule in a democracy is ‘one person, one vote’, not ‘one person, as many votes as he can program a bot to bombard the server with’. It's trivially easy to stuff ballots on any open Internet vote. Even if you try to shut down multiple voters, IP spoofing, bot-netting, and other shenanigans can find a way around any reasonable security setup.

Secondly, and more important, the NHL is not a democracy; it's a business. They set up this internet voting system to gin up publicity for a boring and trivial product, and it's backfiring on them because the publicity is being hogged by a stupid practical joke instead – and not even a fresh joke.

The only thing that might keep the All-Star Game(s) from being a total blowout for the Pacific is if Scott wins and gets put on Gaudreau's line for the whole game.

Even then, Scott will probably end the game with a half dozen assists just by being on the ice with Johnny.

This is why I'm surprised by Flames fans who say they have no interest in watching the game this year. Really? The Flames have the best player in the world at 3-on-3. Why would you not want to see him wreck the rest of the league in a tournament?

Because it's just shinny. He's "wrecking" them at something that isn't hockey.

Despite the fact I think the world cup is gimmicky, I'm tuning in to watch the U23s because it's real HOCKEY. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ice_hockey
