We are 1 car household! And it's paid off to boot!
But I'm also a cheapskate and a snob when it comes to apt style condos. I wanted a low mortgage, and I refuse to share hallways/common entrance with my neighbors. Double for living above/below another unit.
So basically I want champagne on a beer budget.

I used to have a 6 minute commute, but then my wife decided we should own an acreage, so now it's 27 minutes in the morning and 35-40 in the afternoon. Bummer. It's not actually that bad, though, because I think congestion makes a commute crappy, but if you're just driving it's not so bad.

This.
Stony vs. Deerfoot takes roughly the same amount of time for me but Stony is far better as the time is spent driving and not sitting in traffic all pissed off.

Do you guys like your commutes? For me it's one of the better parts of the day, it's when I get to listen to podcasts or throw on some standup comedy. I never seem to have time to do those things at home

Yup. Especially with Stony being so stress free. I had short commutes before and always missed the opportunity to listen to music and drive.
A nice 20 min commute like I have now is really perfect.

An 8 km ride in and out is the main chunk of my daily exercise. It is easily one of the best parts of my day.

Used to be 12 mins driving in, ~20 mins home (depending on weather, winter was averaging 1hr) that was Kensington to Mission. Now my office moved. I expect it just got cut in half.
I could easily walk the distance in about 20 mins, but the lazy man in me wants more comfort. Thinking of getting one of these...
 or
anybody have any experience with a cheap electric scooter or board? anyone do similar? I've thought of just biking it but there isn't a good storage option for bikes at work so it would be on the street. Giving up my parking spot saves me $170/mo which just seems too silly to pay for when its 20 min walk, winter could suck a bit but that's what the occasional car2go/cab is for.

Minor gear grinder/pet peeve, but you keep saying it so I can't help myself...Stony is in Edmonton (Stony Plain Road), and Stoney is in Calgary (Stoney Trail). You don't want to be from Edmonton, do you?

At least you don't inadvertently call it the "Henday" almost every time you mean you're going to take Stoney. I've been back 2 years and I'm still having trouble washing all the stink off, apparently

Live in Tuscany, work in Manchester Industrial area east of Chinook Mall. 27km drive. Transit is not feasible. Morning is okay, about 20-30 minutes. Afternoon drive home makes me want to slit my wrists pretty much every day. 40-45 minutes on a good day and anywhere from 60-90 minutes if there is an accident, traffic which is pretty much every day. I cant stand the drive home. I miss downtown.....

Way home I leave the office around 5ish and usually home in about 35 min. Some days I will take Peigan to Stony to Cranston just to avoid all the cluster traffic but the hardest part of my commute home is usually getting out of downtown with all those damn buses!

LOL. Maybe we should replace each bus with 30 cars?

I thought my commute was pretty good but reading this thread I'm having second thoughts. Without daycare or school drop offs, I have a 1km walk to the train and I'm 4 stops away from work, and my building is right beside the station. So the walk and train together probably takes 20 minutes both morning and afternoon.
If you add in daycare and school drop offs, it gets significantly worse. Walk to school, walk to train, train 8 stops, walk to daycare, walk or train back to work. It's an hour from my door to my desk for sure. Both ways. Sigh.

I live in the NW and I'm 13km from my work (downtown).
Biking usually takes me 30-40 minutes. Taking the train takes 30 minutes. On the rare occasion I drive it takes about 20 minutes.
I ride my bike from April-October. I love riding my bike, I'm almost exclusively on the river pathway or a dedicated path. I work from 7-4, so there's very little traffic in the morning, and but it can be a bit congested around the peace bridge area when I leave. I also love being able to go door-to-door without having to change modes of transportation.
I take the train the rest of year. It's admittedly not favourite, but with my work hours it's manageable.

7 km. Any more and I swear I'd lose my mind having to deal with so many stupid people on the roads.
