My main gripe over flying is when a large group gets split up and during the flight they all stand around your seat and talk.

Now that I think about it, I think there was an anti-recliner behind me on a flight from Montreal to Calgary a few months back.

This was a late flight getting in at 1:00 am. After the meal service (probably around 10 or 11 pm eastern) I slowly reclined my seat in order attempt to sleep (guy did not have his tray table down). Shortly after this, guy decides to bend up his knees and curl up with his shins against the back of my seat so I can feel his every move. At the time I thought he was just an inconsiderate prick (and I still do), but now after reading this thread I assume he is one of these "ant-recline" people.

I'm interested - in your opinion was I in the wrong in this situation? Should I not have reclined my seat?

I'm more interested in why you didn't just turn around and ask the guy about it? Not picking you specifically, but it seems to me that many people in this thread have a fear of talking to strangers when it comes to things like seat reclining or asking someone to move if you need to get up. How hard is it to turn around and ask the person behind you if it's okay to recline, or the person in front of you if they could move their seat forward since you have long legs? Stepping over someone to take a leak because they are sleeping? Sack up and ask them to move. Never ever had an issue on any of the flights I've ever taken in my life because I just ask straight up. People appreciate if you ask. It's not that hard

I'm surprised no one has brought up farting yet. That is easily, and by far the most rancid thing that can occur on a plane. I'll take some guy grabbing my heat rest or stealing my arm rest over some guy dropping stank bombs and souring the plane.

Screw the people who recline, who grab seats when they get up, who have loud or uncontrolled kids:
People like you are the worst type of passenger on a plane.
You're a pompous prick. What is he supposed to do, stay overseas, run out of money and likely get fired from his job? I had the exact same scenario happen to me, 3 week trip in Asia and I get sick on the last day. Most miserable flight I've ever taken in my life, but I did everything I could to not spread that misery to others. But if someone had said that I was a horrible person for having the gall to get sick right before I had to get home I probably would have just sneezed directly on them

Yeah, count me in the "what's he supposed to do?" group.

It sucks, it definitely does, but the absolute hell and cost a person would have to go through to avoid being sick on the plane, well let's just say I consider myself a courteous person and there's no way in hell I'm skipping my flight in that scenario.

I did. I politely informed him that I could feel his every move and asked him if it was necessary to jam his legs into my seat back. The clown gave me a blank look and mumbled something I couldn't hear. Eventually he relented.

In all honesty, before reading this thread it never occurred to me that people get upset at reclining the chairs unless it is during a meal/drink service.

I dont know man, I've been sick on planes before, its air travel, there just isnt much you can do about it. Its heavily scheduled and really expensive.

If you have a cold or a fever or whatever, you've got to get where you're going because you've got a ticket or booked a hotel or back to work or traveling with kids or family or a group or whatever, theres tons of circumstances.

If you're sick, you're sick, but you just have to get on with it. Everyone is in the same boat....or plane rather.

It sucks but just staying where you are until you're better isnt always a viable alternative.

Just do the Japanese thing and wear a medical mask, problem solved

My favorite was seeing Japanese tourists at Bow Falls in Banff with medical masks on. Like you probably couldn't find cleaner mountain air if you tried. What's with the mask?!

Have never really had an experience with this yet - thankfully. That reminds me, I was at the bar recently and was constantly being berated by people's stank as they walked by. Since when did "crop-dusting" become so prevalent in social situations?

Its so gross and how do you recover? say you're talking to a girl, do you ignore it, do you deny it?

Hey, check this out from the gmg's thread

What I did get to sit beside were 2 nice women that didn't bug me, weren't taking up too much room, passed me drinks etc. The thing that bugged me was, someone around us farted a few times. What do I do? and not make it look like I did it. cover my nose with my shirt? I held my breath. There was a kid about 8 in front of us, and I'd bet it was him, but it gmg's thinking the women probably thought it was me. I wanted to just tell them it wasn't me. smelly people grind my gears. I guess it might have been one of them.

I seem to have bad luck with people on my flights farting. So gross.

I'd say probably 20% of my flights I catch a whiff of someone's fart. When you really think about it, it's grosser than you initially think. Particles from some strangers' ASS is going up your nose. ####ing Gross!

How to not be pegged as the crop duster....
I usually look around while making an absolutely disgusted face like I'm trying to find the perpetrator. That's usually enough for people not to suspect me. I think.

Now I feel like a huge DB because, and rightfully so. Even though I quoted his post, it still registered it as going to Poland, instead of flying home.
So yeah, I'm clearly an ahole and need to step away from the computer for a bit.

I clearly need to publicly apologize to Polak for not reading that properly.
I still hate when people fly sick (if avoidable) but all I did see was that you had overload of Advil (no mention of antibiotics) and assumed that was ok to fly even though you knew you had strep. That's all I focused on.

Dbag move for not properly reading that. I hang my head in shame.

Meanwhile, it's probably you who did the crime.

Actually I do the disgusted look technique too. If I'm flying with someone I know, I audibly will proclaim my disgust too.

As for people that have to get up a lot. I don't mind. People have their reasons, and if I have aisle that responsibility comes part and parcel. Also, we all know it's good to stand, so I figure it is forced doctor-recommended actions.
However, those that get up can not be grabbing other's seats. That is criminal. Also, no eating stinky outside food.
Nope wasn't me, the battle would have been much shorter if it had been.

How about this one, it just happened a few hours ago. I'm in window seat. Row in front of me is empty. Buddy a few rows back moves up to sit there. That doesn't bother me, I've done it myself. Once we got up he reclines back into me. I don't like recliners to begin with but to be reclined on by someone who moved there from his original seat is asking too much! I'm kidding but it did piss me off the whole flight. I didn't say anything because it's his right to do so but then again he didn't ask me either. I usually say no, by the way, if someone asks. I say no because plane time is my office time. Recliners #### up my laptop screen.

For the reclining problem, the airplane manufacturers should make the seats work like the "wall saver" recliners you can buy. As you recline, the seat shifts forward so the back of the seat doesn't move back much at all. That way, anyone would be free to recline as much as they want, and the only person's leg room affected would be the person who is reclining.

That's how the lie flat first class pods work, so they're obviously aware of the technology.

The seat reclines. The airline sells me a ticket with a reclining seat. I intend to use the seat that the airline sold me which may include using the table tray, entertainment, and the recline feature. I have no issue with reclining. If the person behind me has an issue with reclining, they can politely express their concern to me and ask if I would consider not using the recline feature that the airline has sold me as part of my ticket.
