I can't believe the posters on HF that are arguing it is a horrible decision in terms of hockey management. For one nobody knews right now how much this move will cost or save financially. The only thing that is now certain is Bennett is a RFA in 2017 instead of 2018.
i was a supporter of him playing as soon as his OHL season was over. It worked out he got in the lineup one game after we clinched and Hartley likes what he saw. The only way a year was getting burned is if we won a round and good for the Flames they won and Bennett is a key player. Bennett was drafted to be a top player on the Flames for years to come. He will be here long term no matter when his ELC expires

For those voting to sit him, how would you approach Bennett with that news?

Unless they've changed the rules, playoff games don't count towards the 25 game limit for rookie status. Tanner Pearson played well over 25 games last year including the playoffs, but he was still considered to be a rookie this season.

In retrospect, I think we should have sat him last night. It's not like he was even visible out there, heck he was so not visible that even his shots that go in the net are not visible!
This kid is amazing. It's still mind bottling that we got him at #4. He's going to be one of the leaders on this team because he leads by example and never quits. He is what the Flames stand for right now and he's playing great with Backlund too!

Even if it burned a year before UFA you still play him. Hes a franchise guy and will be extended before RFA or UFA or whatever.

The Flames carefully considered Bennett's situation before assigning him to Calgary before the end of the regular season. The decision was made then, and left in the coach's hands.
Not sure why this keeps going round and round.

At the start of the playoffs I initially thought they should use Bennett sparingly throughout the push. I believed we could make a respectable run without burning the ELC.
I didn't realise exactly how important he was going to be to the team's success. Who would have thought, at 18 years old & with only 1 game of professional experience, that Bennett would step in and make such an impact? He's a legitimate top 6 forward already. He is vital to any hope we have in beating the Ducks.
Darren Haynes has some interesting points about burning Sam's 1st ELC year. If he ends up being as good as he could be, it could be savvy to negotiate his next 2 contracts before he hits his real stride.

When you consider offensively he's probably sinking any wingers he's paired with and how many turnovers he's making you can argue for Stajan to take his spot on the 2nd line and Granlund to take his spot on the 4th line at least for a game to try and change things up. Combine all that with the fact he can never seem to stay healthy and I think next season could be his last as a Flame.

Man, this is a brutal post. Backlund has been hot garbage all playoffs?
Bob Hartley also disagrees with you. He stated that Backlund has been his go to guy, its never all about points on the scoresheet, plays all 3 zones and plays the hardest defensive minutes during these playoffs.
I hope you noticed who Hartley sent over the boards as the extra man on the delayed penalty for the overtime winner. Hint: His name is Mikael Backlund.

You must feel like big swinging dick right now after our little argument yesterday haha.
Just for the record, I wasn't the one saying he's been playing bad. Just that I appreciated what Stajan was doing a little more than what Backs was doing. I'm happy either way to be proven wrong

For anyone who suggests that, just ask them if they think the Oilers should leave McDavid in junior next year. Because there is zero chance of the Oilers winning the cup.
