He hasn't played a game since exhibition, so I'd temper expectations. I'm just happy he's healed and can get some game action before the season ends.

|
Because of his age, if he doesn't make the Flames, he would have to go back to junior. He's also eligible to play in next year's World Juniors.
I'll be surprised if he doesn't make the team in the fall, but I don't think it's a significant disappointment if he has to go back to Kingston, especially after missing almost all of this season.
Ryan Strome would be a comparable: 5th overall pick in 2011; summer birthday, so one of the younger players in the draft; a smaller player needing to add size. He played two seasons in the OHL after being drafted, and it hasn't been a problem for him.
Mark Scheifele is similar as well. Griffin Reinhart and Matt Dumba are another two recent examples of high first-rounders who played two years of juniors after being drafted (although, they're both defencemen).

I think sureLoss needs to create a mega post for topics like this, like waivers etc. So much misinformation always being thrown out, it would be nice to have an all inclusive post to simply link to.
|
I remember this as well. I think sureLoss posted it in Bennett's injury thread.

Really refreshing level of professionalism and commitment coming from the management of this organization, it's been a long time...

The Oilers would never have sent Bennett down in this situation so I have to assume we're doing the right thing here

Of course they (Oilers) would have. The only reason they kept Draisaitl up for 40 games is because he's a much better player.

A bit of both. Our players at the time were pretty crap. I think our best prospect at the time was Nystrom.

Actually not a bad idea. I know that there are a few things in the new CBA that I dont have a strong handle on yet.

The Oilers would've had him in the lineup after Christmas as soon as he was able to skate and lift his arm above his head.
For most things to do with the Oilers, we as Flames fans and as a Flames organization should have an exponentially higher bar to compare to than that the Oilers have set, in all facets of the organization....and as far as player development goes, the Oilers bar isn't in the same universe as the rest of the league.
Be interesting to see if the "makes no sense" story from Treliving changes depending on where the Flames are when Kingston is done on the OHL.

Yeah, I was being serious. Waivers, contracts, eligibility etc, are all topics that continually confuse people. Every Bennett thread has it going off topic for 2-3 pages at a time asking the same questions over and over, it goes back on topic, then the same things get asked again. Would be nice to have a link to to post and go "Look here" instead of rehashing it over and over again.

This is the key. It was never about whether Bennet would be healthy or whether he's good enough to play in the NHL right now. It was all about what's best for Bennet's long-term development.

If I were a Kingston fan I would be absolutely stoked. He may be a bit rusty but I think hes about to set the OHL on fire.

No problem.. I really should have posted it in green.
I was overjoyed when Edmonton passed up Bennett to pick Draisaitl (Edmonton is just no good). I really think Bennett should have gone 1st overall. Calgary got a steal with Bennett. I think he'll turn out to be the best player drafted that year.
