Had an idea!

He'll have a huge head start on next year if he already gained 10lbs from rehabbing in Calgary.
Great news for the Flames.

10 lbs of muscle would put him close to 190

It's not likely to stop. Most likely posters attempt on here enough to have seen it even though it has literally been asked a dozen times. Totally agree though

@ryanleslie73: #Flames GM Brad Treliving telling me today Sam Bennett declared himself fit for for warmup last Saturday vs Vancouver. Told him "ummm no".

These things take time At least no one seems to confuse two-way contracts with waiver status any more!

Probably going to be an interesting transition for Sam, I don't think he's even been in Kingston since before the Young Stars tournament in Penticton. I'm sure if you asked him before he knew he was going to Kingston he would have said that he feels more like a Flame than a Frontenac currently. Not that I think it will affect his game, kid just wants to play, but it is an interesting aspect of the situation.

They're never going to believe his own fitness assessments ever again after 'shouldergate.'

This is definitely the right move. Transition him into the NHL next year after he has gotten his legs back and he isn't thrown into the fire.

Is Sam still eligible for Junior next season? Is next season pretty much either Junior or NHL due to his age? I know everyone expects him to make the team next season, but let's say THEORETICALLY he doesn't make the team out of camp and is sent back to Junior, would that be considered a disappointment?

While I now think maybe Darryl Sutter sort of did the opposite to the extreme (and maybe our prospects were just really that bad and I'm wrong), I'm glad that the Flames are cautious not to rush people. Back in the day I even thought that the Oilers were doing something right where we weren't. I'm absolutely pleased that the opposite is true.

Worst thing that can happen here is Bennett falters with the Frontenacs.

For a 4th overall forward in his draft year +2, yes that would be disappointing. An ordinary developmental curve for a successful pick would suggest they make the NHL at that point.

@SUNGilbertson: More from #Flames Treliving on Bennett: “Could he have played? Yeah, I think he could have played. It's just, to us, it didn't make sense.”

Did you know that if a team claims a player on waivers, they drop to the bottom of the waiver priority list for subsequent claims?

I think that's only for recall waivers.

I feel like Sam should've at least gotten an audition, but with 10 lbs of muscle packed on and a nicely rebuilt shoulder, Bennett may just tear the OHL a new one.

I think sureLoss needs to create a mega post for topics like this, like waivers etc. So much misinformation always being thrown out, it would be nice to have an all inclusive post to simply link to.
|
In all seriousness, a sticky titled something like "Common CBA misconceptions" that listed things that frequently come up - waiver claims, waiver eligibility, junior recalls, one-way vs. two-way contracts, and probably a few other points I can't think of right now would be very useful for the site. It could be crowdsourced or made by the resident experts, and it could just be linked to when the common questions come up.

He turns 19 in the offseason, so he is still junior eligible next season. As he doesn't turn 20 until 2016, my understanding is that for the 15-16 season he must either play in the NHL or CHL (other than conditioning stints), just as he was this season.
He could even play in the juniors in 16-17 as one of three exemptions for 20 year olds on a given club. At that point he will also be AHL eligible without restirction as well. As you mentioned though, these are very remote possibilities.
