He had 30 pts in 41 games as a rookie pro playing in the souped up due to the lock out AHL. In that same period Baertschi got 26 pts in 36 games solidifying him as the Flames clear cut #1 pro prospect.
Had he been a Flames property from the get go there would be no argument about him being ready for a shot with the big club.
On top for that he has size and had sufficient grit as a 21 year old not to be labelled a soft player by the RGI.

Granlund is actually the guy I have specifically targeted. Love the kid, think he will be a very good NHLer. But he is buried down the middle. Take a kid like that with value, perhaps add him to a deal to add an enticement in a trade for someone like Raymond, probably some other parts, and see if you can get a 3/4 defenceman out of it.
Not an easy task, but one worth investigating.

By the sounds of it he will be physical with some skill also. Something we lack

I wouldn't expect him to be really gritty. It would be nice to have a bigger skilled forward like JVR instead.

Raymond and Granlund together would be very appealing to a lot of teams. Top defense seem so rare now adays though

What about a Granlund+Ramo to Minnesota for an Alex Tuch?

@NHLFlames: "I don't want him to over-think the game." - Bob Hartley on Drew Shore in tomorrow's game & trying too hard to work within the team's system

Thats a little too lopsided in Minny's favor IMO.
Find a way to get Tuch and Folin with with those two Flames as the foundation.

??? they know what they have - he has been watched for a while I'm sure by Flames scouts and management prior to making the trade...

Tuch has more value than Granlund IMO. Actually Granlund+Ramo sounds about right in terms of value, but I think Minny, if they're going to trade for a goalie, would probably be looking for a clear upgrade over what they already have.

I was convinced earlier that a Minnesota trade wasn't likely due to the placement of them just behind us in the standings. We would be digging our own grave in terms of the playoffs.
A clear overpayment would have to happen, so if Granlund+Ramo sounds like an even trade for Tuch, and they need a more stable goalie than Ramo, you better start thinking Minnesota will pay through the nose for Granlund+Hiller+Diaz for Tuch+Folin+...... which likely isn't going to happen.
Best to shop elsewhere.

Tuch is far from a sure thing but his size and position are a sexy thing to over value. I like that he crashes the net but I wasn't as impressed as I thought I was going to be watching him with Eichel in the WJC.

Yeah, we're not getting a top level defensive prospect/player without surrendering Monahan, Gaudreau, Bennett.... But someone who can slot into the 3/4 and allow us to drop Wideman to 5D/PP specialist and push Smid/Diaz out of the lineup would make a significant difference.

One thing I haven't heard about Shore is his speed. Anybody got a read on that. I'm getting to like the speed this team is noted for.
Here's a bit of Pronman's take.
Quote:
He’s a multi-dimensional player offensively who has solid puck skills to along with a big shot. Shore has a nice gritty element to his game and plays pretty well in his own end. He has decent speed, too. The Bad: Shore has no oustanding weakness, but some scouts question his skating a bit, as that’s been his historical weakness. Shore needs to continue to get stronger.

I'd settle for two solid 5-6 guys. I'm not liking a Wideman Engelland 5-6. I'd rather split Russell and Wideman with two other decent guys and roll 1, 2A and 2B defence pairings.
So I think we easily have assets to make that happen. And then we wait for Wotherspoon, Rafikov or whoever the Flames draft this year (Provorov would be nice).

Excited to see what he can do! Shore and Colborne might have some chemistry as they played together in college I believe.

Interesting that the Flames go back to the same well - 23/24 y/o player with some upside and buried in the depth chart, handed a roster spot on the Flames. A good method for filling out some of the role positions with pre-apex players.
Good centre depth is such a strange feeling as a Flames fan.

Would like to see Granlund kept as he has a better 2 way game than Backlund had at the same age. Though he might eventually slot in as a winger if his faceoffs don't improve.
If he is sent back down to the AHL I hope he is on a line with Ferland and Reinhart and gets them going again. Both had excellent chemistry with Granlund last year.
