He knows that Smyth himself, Mactavish and Lowe dont count right?

In a year full of embarrassments for the Oilers, having only 3 players show up for Smyth's announcement today just might be the bottom of the barrel.
Absolutely pathetic. A slap in Smyth's face, considering he played for that team for many years and played his arse off more than most on his teams. Truly bewildering.

$50 says that either Der Kommissar will swear up and down that he was and, inexplicably, no one saw him, or at the very least offers an ironclad alibi to explain his absence.

I dont know about that. I honestly heard about this this morning. It seems very, very rushed. Its like this has all been arranged at the very last minute.

I heard about this last night, and if we knew about it on the internet chances are Oiler players knew something was going on prior to that.
Even if they heard about it today, it was held in Edmonton, they should have made plans to be there. I could see one or two or even a few not there due to family responsibilities, but not 20+. That looks like a team that just doesn't care all that much, pretty much the same way the play on the ice as well.

They were talking about this all throughout the game last night on TSN, so the players definitely should have known it was coming.

Fair enough. You'd think he wouldnt want to retire after a pathetically listless 3-0 asskicking, but he is an Oiler so you never know.
The Oilers have been phoning this season in since November, why stop now?

I find it interesting that the two Alberta teams made big announcements today. The Flames looking forward with two new high character players to build the future around. The Oilers looking back at the last player who really provided any sort of character or future to the Oilers hockey team. Kind of a microcosm of the two teams. The Flames headed in the right direction and the Oilers continuing to circle the bowl.
Oh, Oilers are no good.

It was kinda a sad moment when he gestured towards the wall and said "I'd like to thank all these young players." and didn't even look up, because there was nobody there. Kudos for sticking to the script, but what a total slight on the guy. The whole team should have been there, even if they didn't like the guy. He is one of the few people in the last 20 years that actually said "I want to be an Oiler, and live in this craphole."
I never was a huge fan of him, and thought he was pretty over rated, but regardless, he was still a dedicated player, that sacrificed a lot in a completely futile cause.

He got the nickname "Captain Canada" for always answering the call when Team Canada asked him to play in the World Hockey Championships.

Give it a rest.

I was talking about adults who coached, taught, or billeted, all who would have a differing view.
I'm not really that sensitive, I just know a lot of good stories about this guy and I know he's not a dumbass. (hope that words not offensive). The guy's a class act.

I can't stand the guy but I was not a teammate either. If I had been I would have been there like the rest of the disrespectful snot rags should have been. That organization is such a joke.

Reading issues? I posted late 30's, you know, like Smyth himself. They were in his class. And I was a little more polite before but yeah, they said he's as dumb as a sack of hammers.
