It's not the picture. As was said today on Good Morning America, if the caption said "You can do this too!" this wouldn't be an issue at all.

More like arrogance. If you are pointing your finger at other people's failures and putting yourself on a pedestal that is arrogance. People generally don't like arrogance.
If that was not her intent, as some are suggesting, then she needs to work on her communication skills, because it seems a lot of people took it that way.

And, as this thread shows, a lot of people took it the other way.

Different things motivate different people, and some things that motivate some, demotivate others and vice versa. I can definately understand your perspective that this can be inflammatory to some people, and that in many circumstances some overweight and obese people cannot fathom or imagine a world or process where that can change. To those people messaging needs to be completely a supportive or positive message.
However this message to me is actually inspiring. My issue is not that I don't believe it's possible to get into better shape. It's rather that I'm too damn lazy to put in the effort. Having this image of someone who keeps it together despite three more obvious roadblocks to fitness than my life currently provokes thoughts on how I can structure my day to day life and diet in ways that can be more constructive.

That's fine. But obviously its not a cut and dry positive message, or we wouldn't be talking about it. It isn't offensive to me, but I could see how it could be to a mother of 3 who struggles to manage her time and struggles with her weight.
If she wanted a clearly positive message for women aspiring to fitness, this probably wasn't the best way to go about it.

I agree.. the wording of the question is accusatory (is that a word?)
I don't have any excuse for not looking as fit as her. I just look the way I look and it's fine. I'm not a lesser person because I'm bigger than her.

A question to those offended by this woman and her message:
Do you still polish your "Participation" trophies?

I, personally, found her much more attractive before she got all Hulk.

Are you kidding me? If a fit, male did the same thing where he was posing and asking "what's your excuse", we'd all be calling him a d-bag.

I think she's a different person.
One of these things are not like the other.

Yeah, I was referring to the girl Devil's Advocate had in his post ... not the lady in the OP. Apologies for any confusion there.
