Surprised at the dollar amount. Great Signing, hopefully Backlund finally breaks thru.

I really hope Backlund breaks out this year. He looked pretty solid last year, but would be awesome to just see that one extra step.

How did knight who has no nhl experience get 2 mil more per year than Backlund?

I'm impressed with Feaster. Backlund was worth more than 1.5 million last season in my opinion. He's just got to kick the injury bug and we've got a player.

Look at the minimum requirements for attaining any ELC bonuses: http://capgeek.com/faq/how-do-entry-...contracts-work

Knight needs to have an absolute blowout year to get any bonus money. He's more than likely going to earn just his $900,000 base salary (and less than that if he spends any time in the AHL).

Lundy lundy Backlund! Great re-signing - both term and $$! Was honestly expecting 2x the dollar amount. Pumped to see if he can bring the beast for next year, injury-free!

Also agree on his potential Captain qualities - prol too much responsibility right now, but imo has the right attitude, work ethic, and (from all interviews, tweets, etc.) genuinely seems to love Calgary and love playing here. Also open bashes the Oilers (IIRC) and Nucks, only ingratiating himself moreso to the Flames faithful - yes more of that plz thx

I hope by this time next year we're debating whether Backlund is the best value-contract in the NHL

Good signing. Backlund will still be RFA after this. I guess Backlund wanted a little bit more security. Good on Feaster to take advantage.

I was ready to let the Backlund re-love ignite amongst CP, but MMF's assertion of being the next captain, absolutely chokes me out. There is no way someone of his playing style can be captain. He can't win a big faceoff, stays away from the tough areas of the ice, certainly can't fight and does nothing to change a game!!!

Remember 2 seasons ago when him and Iginla were injured coming out of camp, 1 had rib/back problems, 1 had a mangled digit. guess which one needed 20 games to return.

The contract is good and it is fair based on what we've seen thus far. I know CP believes he is on pace to score 20+ this season and lets hope, but as usual, it's a lot of games to stay healthy for and this guy is injury prone.

I still believe his game would fit better in the KHL, but nothing covers up warts better than a rebuild. Lets see how he does this next 82!

Great value for Backlund. Not all that surprising though, as the boy has not put up the numbers to justify much more.

He still looks very promising. I feel like he is in the mold of a Marcus Naslund, or to a lesser extent the Sedins, all three of whom took far longer to develop and adjust to the nature of the NHL than they were expected to.

When I caught the games last season Backs showed flashes of brilliance. He's quick and has great hands and vision. He's becoming more aggressive and his attitude is as good as you could expect.

He now has 2 years on this contract with little-to-no pressure to produce. I expect him to command a massive raise in 2015, and it will be justified.

Just because you made a stupid prediction years back, doesn't mean you need to keep reminding everyone of how smart you think you are. Backlund played tremendous hockey last season and could easily be the captain of this team. Take your negativity elsewhere, please.

while that guy took it too far, he does have one valid point. Backlund should not (and will not) be captain of the Flames. I am not of sure he deserves an 'A'

the whole basis for Backlund being captain started when he defended a teammate, that doesn't make him a leader, just makes him a good teammate.
