Two fantastic, highly-skilled moves that maybe, MAYBE, 10% of professional goaltenders will stop...and the young, rookie, back-up goalie killed the team's chances in the shoot-out.
Once again, CP delivers the chuckles.

I fell asleep through the vast majority of the game.
Only caught OT and the SO
Can someone provide a recap? Sounds like it was the usual match of slo-mo pong between the Flames and Wild. Was it played pretty well dead even? Damn the shootout..

Irving is not the problem, he's been an improvement over Kipper by a fair margin. The problem is our constant line changing, complete lack of chemistry and the top players playing like hot garbage . Without Hudler, Brodie, Wideman and Bouwmeester we woulda been demolished tonight. When your best players play like they just had hip replacement you aren't going to win against NHL teams

At best they are missing two of their top six, and the 2nd one is a borderline top six forward on this or any other team. Hopefully we are not that other Alberta team that counts on rookies to be top six forwards.....
|
Frankly, yes, Sven is one of our top six, Backlund certainly was pre injury.
But even if you drop Sven from the list, that means we are playing without our 2 of our top 6 forwards and our starting goalie, doesn't change the dynamic much.
Worse, we are actually playing without 4 of our top 6, because I dont know WTF happened to Iginla or Tanguay, but neither of them have shown up yet either.

Well I was going to look at the 10 game point as a good time for an analysis of the team, and unfortunately, I just don't see playoffs. There is a real lack of gamebreakers on the team. Without true elite talent in their prime this team won't be able to break into that top 8 and compete with the upper echelon teams of the league. We've seen some nice things so far this season but just not enough execution in the squad to be a real threat in the league.

Taking into consideration we're missing 3 of our top six and our No. 1 goalie...
5 of 8 points in our last 4 games is good.

I hope this is Irving's last year in Calgary. Not because I think he's a bad goalie, I think he deserves better treatment. He had a great game, got us a point and people want to blame him for the loss when Tangs and Jones had Bantam level shootout shots. Don't even get me started on Joey McDonald. Bye Leland, best of luck elsewhere, you deserve better.

NHL sucks, after Hudler tied it up the Wild got FOUR shots on goal in the remaining 24:32. That's not hockey and teams shouldn't be rewarded with a 3 man skills competition.

Irving was fine overall, but that shootout was brutal. He was guessing more than Karlsson used to.

One of the least entertaining games I've seen in awhile, FF'd through most of it on the PVR.
I'd far rather see a pure shootout specialist in the lineup than the likes of Jackman and Comeau. These points are far too valuable to continue to piss away.

you could have had god shooting for the Flames in this game and they would have lost...Irving was not about to make a save

Hudler, Brodie and Stajan best on the ice.
Irving doing well, except for shootout.
Too many passes to Iginla which die on his stick.

I hate to sound like a broken record, and I really do want to contribute more than just bashing 1 player, but our 'alleged' best player has 1 goal in 10 games.
7 Million / Year and captaincy.
That is what separates us from being a playoff team.

Koivu and Parise are both 40%+ in the shootout. The odds were against us before they shot.

The team wasn't exactly lighting the league up with those guys in the lineup either.

reminds me of how people used to talk about McBackup
maybe he just isnt that good? he played a decent game but really the Flames didn't give up many scoring chances...one on one he is pathetic

I would consider it a 130 game plan instead of just a 48 game plan. If they make the playoffs (and I still think they will) then it's a huge bonus but it shouldn't be the end of the world if they don't. The main thing is that there's culture change. Players are accountable and aren't lazy anymore. I've never seen so many active sticks and intercepted passes by the Flames. Flames really dominated the board tonight, they just couldn't finish. Hitting two goal posts
