Iggy has a history of performing very well on the international stage, including his most recent appearance! He's a game breaker which is why he'll be on the team. He should be the captain.
Iginla has his rightful place in history as being instrumental in the gold medal wining goal. Aside from that, he didnt have a spectacular tournament.
He is a hall of famer no doubt, but sooner or later Iginla fans will need to stop living in the past.

2002 He was the Olympics Best Player
2004 He was instrumental in the Flames Cup Run
2010 He was average and made a historic assist on Crosby's goal.

Iginla's accomplishments are great, but they are 10 years old.

I don't see Iginla making this team - There is a case to be made for about 20 other guys at Forward making this team ahead of him.

Pominville has already played for the States in the World Championship so I doubt he can play for Canada.

I would have Price as the starter easily but Luongo should be on the team if he continues to play enough games between now and then.

won't crosby be 29/30 by the time the olympics roll around - seems to me that he could provide leadership and get the girls with his boyish good looks.

iggy will needa very good season to get on the team - but what do i know.......

Keep in mind almost half the roster is already captains for their team and secondly, have led their teams to the Stanley Cup. This isn't a team of rookies.
Same could have been said for the 2002, 2006 and 2010 Olympic Teams. Fact is, Iggy has been to 3 Olympics with 2 golds. He's an older presence. Plus he can still play due to him keeping himself in great shape.

So yes, in addition to other things, Iginla will be picked to Team Canada to provide leadership.

So 18 other teams.
And when you take out defensemen/goalies, because that's completely irrelevant, it looks even worse (also, I disagree with Pominville). Maybe 14 by my count... less than 1/2 of the 29.

Let me guess, you are an Iginla fan?
What gave it away? lol

Well I hope for your sake Iggy makes the team. Even if they leave out an impact player that could have helped them win the gold.

A goldless Team Canada with Iggy on it beats a winning Team Canada any day of the week.

Just like a Playoff-less Calgary Flames with Iggy on it beats out a Winning Rebuilt Flames team in the future.
Gotta preserve Iggy's Legacy for all the Iggy Fanboys out there

I am.

I want Team Canada to win whether Iginla is on it or not. I don't think anyone would say otherwise (although looking at your posting history, I would suspect you would take great pleasure in Iginla being on Team Canada and losing).

The whole Legacy/Fanboy stuff is just garbage. You clearly think he's past his prime, should be moved and isn't an impactful player. That's fine. I think he can contribute to Team Canada and will likely earn a spot. You don't. The thing is, Yzerman is the shot caller, so I think we can probably just let this go.

Pretty obvious why Ferraro isn't a GM or coach.

But what the hell I will show you my list:

E Staal - Crosby - Eberle
Nash - Giroux - Stamkos
Tavares -Toews - Iginla
Benn - Getzlaf - Perry
Extras : Bergeron - M Richards

Bubble Players- Seguin, Spezza, Nugent- Hopkins

Keith - Doughty
Pietrangelo - Weber
Staal - Subban
Coburn

Bubble D- Myers, Coburn, Boyle, Bouwmeester, Girardi

Price- Luongo- Anderson

Bubble- Smith, Brodeur, Fleury
I like your forward picks, but I'm going to give this a go myself:

E. Staal - Crosby - Giroux
Spezza - St. Louis - Stamkos
Tavares - Toews - Perry
Nash - B.Richards - Lecavalier
Extras: M Richards, Eberle

Keith - Doughty
Pietrangelo - Weber
Gerardi - Boyle

Bubble D (in order): M.Staal, Subban, Myers

Goaltending: Price-Luongo-Ward

To me, you need size or the Americans will lean on the Canadians. I don't believe in just doing a youth movement for the sake of doing it. Eberle is skilled, but at the NHL level, he's not there yet. I'd take him as an extra with the label of "let's see". I'm also not big on Seguin yet. I'd love to see my 4th line with great reach, but can also play the dirty dump and hold game, but also score. The rest of the lineup has a good combination of size and skill. As for goaltending, I'd definitely like to see Brodeur as the 3rd string just in case, but I don't think he'd be chosen because of his age. Iggy, well, I haven't been impressed with his conditioning in recent years, so even as a Flames fan, I'd keep him off. Thornton? Hell no on the Olympic ice. He may be doing well points wise, but he's a not a clutch player and will be even slower next year. Getzlaf, well let's see how he does this year.

Eberle had 76 points in his second year in the league. How much more does he need to do?

I would take Iginla, especially if the roster is at 25 guys

He would be the only skater from 02(Gold) 06(Embarrassment) and 10(Gold)

You need someone from that 06 team to keep everything in perspective, known as a great leader, could still play a role if needed

I would be surprised if they didn't take him

Also not having Luongo for both Button and Ferraro is insane, barring injury he is 100% there, and I don't see a scenario where he's not starting game 1

Show consistency this year and be resiliant to getting knocked around by bigger guys a little. I also think his two way game can still develop more. I don't hold anything at all against him, I just think there are others ahead of him right now.

Not really worth a new topic, so I'll just put it here: Austria has qualified for the Olympic Games 2014 they lost to Germany in overtime today, but the Germans would have needed a regulation win to qualify. That's HUGE for our country, given that no one expected them to qualify in their group against Germany.

Austria qualifies for the first time since 2002 while the Germans miss the tournament for the first time ever.

I'm using my phone, so it's hard for me to check, but I think that aside from that one assist, Iginla also led the entire Olympic tournament in goals. Is that what you call average?

He was top-3 in the NHL in goals TWO years ago.

Im not saying Iginla should be lock to make the team, but you are seriously exaggerating how far 'over the hill' Iginla is. He is one season removed from being an all-world goal scorer.

He was also team canada's top goal scorer and second leading scorer in 2010.
