He's basically on there at the bottom BECAUSE of Keith, but I agree he probably wouldn't see the ice. In all likelihood, someone else will be playing well enough who isn't on the list in each category to bump off the bottom guy.
And Iginla isn't even first runner-up. Note the absence of Joe Thornton, Martin St. Louis, Jason Pominville and Patrick Marleau who at the moment would all be well ahead of him EDIT: Crap, and Spezza. By next year Logan Couture maybe too.

There are needs/roles other than just pure skill on the Olympic Team. No one is championing for him to play on the top 2 lines, but there is a role for him (or someone like him) on a team that's going to be young.
As for all 29 other teams... BS.

Are you really telling me that the role for Iginla is to provide leadership??
Keep in mind almost half the roster is already captains for their team and secondly, have led their teams to the Stanley Cup. This isn't a team of rookies.

If Iginla is playing at a high level he will garner consideration over many players listed due to experience and Hockey Canadas overall like for Iginla. Much like Niedrmayer did in 2010.

And who was it that stepped up last time when the game was on the line? Iginla to Crosby = GOLD! Without Iggy, that might not have happened. You and some others might forget that but I doubt that the people picking the team will.
Iggy has a history of performing very well on the international stage, including his most recent appearance! He's a game breaker which is why he'll be on the team. He should be the captain.

Pominville is a damn good and underrated player. But he won't be ahead of Iginla for the Canadian Olympic team because he's not Canadian when it comes to international play.

Doubtful Iginla makes the team, too many younger better players at this point.

Iginla makes it on the team only if he his stats are good this season, and next season up until the selection gets made. Team Canada doesn't need 'leadership' or that 'veteran presence'. I don't know why some people are beating that drum. If Iginla makes it, he will probably wear an "A". You have to figure Crosby will get it again.
I hope Iginla is having a great season when the selection happens. Will be great to see him there again. I just don't think he will be awarded a spot based on his past accomplishments (which are many and wonderful). They will only select him if he is playing well between now and then.

I don't know how Ferraro doesn't put Luongo on that team. Can hate him all you want, but at least as of right now, he'd have to be the starter.
...and since I started following him on twitter recently, I'm ashamed to say I'm actually starting to like the guy. Surprisingly hilarious. Can the Canucks just trade him already so I don't have to feel so dirty?

Ray granato is a hack.
He should never be allowed to unveil his roster.

You mean the Game 7 where his team had nothing and didn't score a goal?
Had the Canucks won the cup, he'd be Vancouver's 1st or 2nd favorite to win the Conn Smythe. It still would have gone to Thomas either way, but Luongo was good during that run outside of the Boston games in Boston, which he deserves criticism for and believe me, he still gets it. But him losing Game 7 had nothing to do with him. His team was brutal in front of him. I don't remember a real good scoring chance for the Canucks in that game.

Which is funny because when this same thread was created in the fall, the general sentiment was that no one wanted him on the team as a backup much less the starter.
Honestly right now it's 1A/1B between Price and Luongo and whoever's going at the time will likely be relied on.

Still too soon
Crosby is going to be captain, unless he's hurt. I can't believe people would think otherwise.
Iginla... as with most older players, its going to be as close to a game time decision as possible. So, depends how this year goes. As said above, there are tons of Stanley Cup winners on that team, there are Olympic gold medel winners, so they aren't lacking winners there. Dream teams like this don't need "leadership" as everyone is already a leader.

If Iggy is on his way to 30+ goals again next year I think he should have a shot at the team..
If we want to take a look back at the last two gold medal winning goals for Canada I think Iggy had a role in both? Did he assist on Sakics goal? I can't remember.. I know he scored the tieing goal, and the fourth goal..

On the large ice surface we need speed and young legs imo. Veteran presence it's important, but not primarily
