Sorry if this was covered earlier in the thread, but has the waiver order been established?
How many/which teams have a chance to put in claims before the Flames do?

My guess is this weeks standing but it may be too soon.

Plus Backlund is still improving and giving up those 2 assets to get a guy who seems like a Langkow type (not a bad thing) and then pay him $4-$5m per is not what this team needs

This. plus the chance that any non-playoff team could win the lottery.
I would much rather have Jones and MacKinnon. And I would rather have Drouin or Barkov.
Sure, it's only a chance that we get one of them. But if we did and it went to the Avs? Yikes.
And people want to give them Backlund too?
Most years, a 1st and a prospect for O'Reilly - I'm in.
THIS year, a 1st and Backlund? No fricking way.

You have to understand that we would have to give up assets to get him. In other words, we aren't ahead.
If we keep our first, we get a player who could well be better than O'Reilly, and we keep Backlund, and they are both cheaper than O'Reilly - combined.

What do the flames have to lose by picking him up? Waive begin/jones or comeau. Boychuk has a lot more talent then any of them, and if there is one thing the flames can always use more of, it is young talent. At least with him there is some talent baertschi can play with on the fourth line...

Boychuk didn't get very much PP time last year and obviously none this year.
Also, he is an RFA at the end of this season, so if the Flames were to claim him and he didn't work out they wouldn't be on the hook for additional years. His salary is 0.625 mil.
Interesting to consider that some of the college free agents this year are similarly sized to Boychuk, have not shown the ability to put up a PPG in the AHL, and would likely be signed to a 2 or 3 year deal. Difference being that Boychuk would have to spend the year in Calgary while college free agents would be sent to the Heat. Sending Karlsson to Chicago and opening up another contract really makes this potential claim interesting.

I would think Zach Boychuk is claimed today... most likely the Flames never have a chance to make a claim.

Seriously? The Flames are currently 3rd last in the entire NHL. The Flames will have every chance to grab him. Washington probably won't claim him, doubt the Panthers will either.

The order is still based on last seasons standings.

What time do they announce waiver claim?
Sven is now out week to week. The chances of the flames putting in a bid just increased. Maybe not by much, but increased at least in my mind.

Waivers are over at 10 am MST. I'm pretty sure I read that it's last year's standings until like February 9, but I can't find the link and it's driving me crazy!

Guess the Flames and 25 other teams didn't want him.
