Autoblog just added some really nice pics of the new 'vette. These pics aren't the CGU promo shots or the far away pics from the reveal, they're great shots from up close showing all the details. This car is really really, ridiculously good looking.
(sorry don't know how to imbed pics from this site)
^The Carrera GT would be an exception. Sort of. I heard one ripping in on highway one once, was pretty cool. V10s sound nice when they are screaming, but not my thing when cruising around town. V8's and V12s will always be my favorite.
A study conducted by British insurance company Hiscox reveals that the sound of a revving Maserati engine has a biological effect on women. Those who took part in the study listened to a variety of engine sounds from a number of cars, and after hearing the Maserati engine, all of the female test subjects had higher testosterone levels in their blood. High testosterone levels in the blood can be indicative of a stirred libido.

That is a pretty sweeping generalization. Carrera GT's sound amazing:
I was standing at the corner of 10th Ave and 14th St waiting for the light. A Carrera GT pulled up beside me, and it was one of the nicest sounding cars I've ever heard.
How come this thread is full of talk and photos of those nasty porsches?
Big Corvette fan here, hard to find a better driving car close to the price.
C5's are a treat to drive, moreso than the C6 in my opinion. Last year of the flip up headlights!
Because they're the slightly richer redneck Camaro and are not that good looking

I can understand most things about Porsches and why they appeal to people, but the part I can never get over is they sound absolutely awful.
I'm admittedly a big Porsche guy, but even I can admit they don't necessarily always quite sound as good as one would hope. The old air-cooled ones do have a lot more personality though....the new ones sound a little more wispy than I would prefer.
Although in general, I definitely prefer naturally aspirated engines over a Turbo. I mean BMW turbos sound so tame they have to pipe fake sounds to make it sound more aggressive.
Ferrari still makes the best sounds by far imo. Part of me is still getting over the absolutely magical sound of the v8 in 458 that I got to drive last summer. That is one spectacularly sounding engine/exhaust setup. When those valves open up, dreams are made.

New Stingray startup...the one that was on the stage in Detroit a couple days ago:
As good a place to put one of my favourite car commercials. First time it came on TV, wasn't playing attention the first 10 or 15 seconds and really didn't know what the ad it was for, as its been a while since a Corvette commerical on TV..but the ending just awesome.

Uh, not quite. The new M5 has 'Active Sound', but it isn't piping in 'fake sounds'. It's the actual noise the engine is making, being played into the cabin. It's not like if they made a Prius that played a V8 sound track. <-- Watch, it's actually kind of neat.
That said, I can barely tell the difference between Active Sound on or off, if this clip is accurate.
Keeping with Chevy, they're releasing the SS which is the newest model of the Commodore SS. I was a big fan of the G8 GT and was sad to know I may not get a chance to own one. The new SS is what the chevy brand of Nascars will be rolling out in FEB at Daytona. Heres a pic of the race car.
Yeah, it's definitely not being piped in naturally. It goes through a digital signal processor and comes out the speakers. Artificially replicating a noise is akin to "fake" to me.
From the sounds of it, the same thing is happening on the 135i now. I definitely think having a turbo in there has something to do with it.
