This thread has been sent to SNET and they are aware of your concerns. We understand and respect your feelings. BTW Hulkrogan I lurk in the weeds now and then. I've spoken to many CPers at games and enjoy it. Perhaps you can introduce yourself sometime and we can chat. Roger
Has there been any progress on this, because it is a little silly this is still an issue.
Just as a frame of reference, last month we had a guy from freakin SPACE do a live duet with people in a studio.

Well, deal with it. I wasn't cheering for Canada either way. Nothing worse than arrogant Canadian fans. They'd be lucky to finish 4th. Quote me on that. They have a bad team and that is why I won't be cheering for them.

Well Roger, it's been a year. Still the same crap.
Pretty sure it's an easy decision for Rogers to make.
Accept X dollars in virtual advertising with the one draw back of having the audio being slightly out of sync or do not accept virtual advertising dollars. I'm as annoyed by it as anyone else, but as long as Rogers has exclusive coverage of the Flames games it carries I have no alternative to watching it. Rogers knows that, so they essentially don't care and made a decision that would make their shareholders happier.
Linking video and audio should be elementary school work for a broadcaster. It should be so easy, that the only reason I can see why it is as bad as it is, is because they intentionally do it.
Why they would intentionally do it, doesn't make sense to me.

The worst part is, Kerr is most enthusiastic when the puck is around the net. He's too on the ball and / or tape delay is really apparent in those situations.
It would be nice if it was 5.1 sound as well. I love when the commercials blast from my rear speakers because I have to turn up the sound so much for the game!

I don't get why it's been figured out on Sportsnet Pacific with Canuck games as they have those virtual ads on the glass, but can't be figured out on Sportsnet West.
pretty Mickey Mouse.

I sent an email via the Sportsnet website 2 weeks ago, and as I expected - no reply. The issue is on the wide shot centre ice camera I suspect. It is a few frames out of sync (behind audio). So when that camera pans/zooms in to the crease area (a typical TV shot) when a goal is scored, the audio goes first. I think all the smart CPers have figured this out. It has now come down to the customer service quality of Sportsnet West.
I use SHAW so I am not sure if it is SHAW's problem...*(remember game one season opener the channel was blacked out for 10 minutes)...anyways, I am planning to switch to OptikTV.
I watch via satellite TV feed. There has never been a noticeable delay in the PBP and video, so this all seems strange. I noticed sometimes in highlights that it would happen, but otherwise never.
Also, it's funny that people pipe down the lack of class shown toward SNET after roger comes in here and tells you guys what's up, in his usual respectable way. You can say what you want about them, but those guys work hard each broadcast to bring us our Flames hockey, and I sure like having all 82 games covered, rather than a few years back when the odd game wasn't even broadcasted. Tech issues happen. I'd blame whoever came up with the dumb idea to put the virtual ads behind the nets for any lag time.
If I were to offer my thoughts on the game calling itself though.. I'd admit that i'm really not a fan of Simmer. Being that this is a hockey town, and the average fan's hockey IQ is higher than a lot of other places around the league, I feel we don't need the colour commentating to teach us the game between whistles at an elementary school level. And IMO there's a little too much emphasis on how a player is "feeling" and the mental side of the game. I think that card is a little too overplayed. I wish Charlie would give us a little better insight that is a little less obvious to the viewer, maybe tell us something we don't know. but anyways, that's just my opinion.

Thoughts?
It's not a provider issue (reading the post above, the same issue can be found with Telus Optik)

I don't believe this is even a problem for RSN Oilers broadcasts.
But maybe it is. Bell ExpressVu... No issues. The audio has never been so out of sync that a goal is called before the puck is physically shown in the net. If it's off at all, you can't tell.
I've seen feeds where this issue is occuring, but it hasn't this season on my provider.

First time I've seen this (and certainly not to excuse Sportsnet for bad syncing), but I'm quite certain that this was faked. I really really doubt that it would work out well doing a live link like that. Either a track was created that Chris Hadfield recorded himself playing to was created earlier, and then BNL played to the same track while playing later on (I think this is the most likely), or there was only a one way link - i.e. Hadfield had the track, and played along with it, then the combined output was streamed to the stage, where BNL played along with it. (This wouldn't be that hard to set up either) However, even the second option negates the point you were trying to make.
Setting up a two way connection to do something like that is hard to do with two people on earth in different rooms, never mind doing it with one person on a stage, and one person on space moving at 5000 km/h. Even the slightest delay is unacceptable, and makes playing together essentially impossible. One person plays something, and there's a slight delay getting the sound from one person to the other, who plays along with the slightly delayed sound from the first person. however, the sound from the second person going back to the first person, is slightly delayed too, and all of a sudden, the first person is trying to keep in time with a doubly delayed signal, which easily could be a beat off from the original sound.
