Saw one of those "plow convoys" clearing NB Deerfoot yesterday (by Ikea), it was quite the sight to see. 4 plow/sanders staggered clearing the whole road at once. Couldn't tell if it was effective, but the sheer amount of snowing being thrown aside was impressive.

It's called echelon plowing. Supposed to be FAR more effective than having one plow doing one lane at a time.

All the trucks throw the snow as far as possible, thus eliminating windrows on the roads that cars then drive over and scatter all over the place.

I hope for the sake of those down South that it doesn't rain and have any of those 12 degree days only to turn to -10 the next day. Up in St.Albert we've had a lot of snow, than with the rain and warm temperatures early last week, and than the instant freeze the next day, the side walks in the neighbourhood are pure ice. Even my dogs were having trouble staying on their feet. I've never seen my dogs bail onto their arse so much.

BOOOOOO on you guys for sending this to Oklahoma. We are supposed to get from 8-ish inches ( roughly 24cm) - 12 inches ( 36cm) Monday night - wed. The weather man today said, "we arent even gonna say hazardous or treacherous travel, we are saying impossible travel ." Snow is all fine and dandy the crappy thing is below 0 degrees F windchill and the ice and freezing rain mixed in. Well at least I will get 2 or 3 days off work!

It should be an interesting commute tomorrow for those that have to drive to work. Probably a blessing the snow started late afternoon on Friday.

They are at the end of 24st, south of the road king. That's one of the City's shops/maintenance yards which also holds sand and fuel for some of the fleet.
edit: Looking at google street view, there's a pile of sand marked Free outside their compound! Sweet!

Calgary did pretty good with the snow the weekend. I had no problems getting around town. Although I have been dealing with Edmonton's snow for a month now, so I am mentally prepared for snow driving.

I wouldn't chide him too hard. Typically Americans fail to understand that a different measurement system than their own exists. At least he's trying!
