You’re already defending him and he isn’t even a Flame yet !

I'm fully on the sell train, however Lindholm is the difficult one for me. If we're willing to retain salary on him, are we perhaps better off waiting for the offseason to look to move him after we've gotten an idea if he's willing to resign with us? I guess you'd be gambling on how much the return of 1 year of Lindholm at 50% would be vs. what 1 year plus an additional playoff run is, but I'd think that gamble is worth it to hopefully keep him on the team moving forward.

He's 5 years younger than Backlund, and if you look at Backlund's continued growth over the last 5 years, I'd say there is still another level of consistency, leadership and improvement within Lindholm's game that makes him a guy to keep around.

If we move Lindholm, then maybe his buddy Markstrom will also want to go? Hmm...

Add in a Binnington/Markstrom Swap to make it a blockbuster?

Flames need a puck moving offensive minded D man more so than a slow, injury prone, doesn't use his size as much as he should 29 year old D man making too much money.
He plays more like Jankowski did than a Trouba in terms of "physicality"

Blues are trying HARD to get out of his contract, because well... he's not worth it.
Lets stay far away please.

I also think it could potentially look bad to move a core guy like that - who probably has no expectation of moving - 10 days after having a kid.

Toffoli, Zadorov, Hanifin, Tanev, and Backlund (if he wants to go) are the guys are I'd be talking to about a potential move probably.

Backlund should be moved as well . He’s amazing for what he brings but isn’t something a non playoff teams needs

I imagine his value would be threw the roof right now for a contender

While I haven't seen that - we should do that and just use our cap space to facilitate trades and pick up draft picks.

Anyone who is Pending UFA or deal ends next year should be considered to be moved and we'd be heavily compensated to retain on the duration of those deals.

Not saying you have to retain but if the return is good it should be considered.

Hanafin at 2.5
Lindholm at 2.4
Tanev at 2.25
Zadorov at 1.8
Backlund at 2.6

Since first round picks go for 5-6 mil In cap retention Flames would need to get an extra 2 first in the deals to break even on retention

The amount of blue chippers, 1st and 2nds you could get for even just 3 of those players at 50% retained is so incredibly tantalizing. I still like a bunch of this core too and I think players like Zary and Coronato can step in and be effective as well.

He would probably go to Edmonton - his immediate family lives close by or in the province.

They have not actually placed him on LTIR. Just an article stating that it is an option to do so.

As long as we don't burn them up like we did in 2013.
