This. Unless they get a "blew-them-away" offer which is more likely to happen if they're patient.

I think the hope would be that he gets claimed to remove next year's cap hit.

The best situation for the Flames is to remain patient, and 'let the game come to them'. Someone will make a good (desperate) offer for a goalie soon enough. If we can move Markstrom, great. If it's Vladar, great. But either way, being patient, in order to get a better return, is the best way to proceed.

I agree that they probably can wait another year to trade a goalie, it’s not the most urgent item right now.
I don’t agree that Markstrom can be moved easily. You don’t see 6M goalie with term getting moved. The are either too important to move or too inconsistent to gamble on. You decide what category Markstrom is in right now.

Not if he still factors into their plans. There is a probably a deal out there where the Flames take a similar contract for forward or dman if they really want to dump him.

There is no chance that he is getting waived, unless his game falls off a cliff in the next couple months.

Yes, they could trade him tomorrow, if they just wanted to get rid of his contract

I’ve always liked JJ Peterka, and I just looked up his stats-17 points in 22 games! He’s a hard-worker who’s willing to do some dirty work. I always thought he would make a good 3rd liner, but he looks to be much more. I think he would be a fantastic get, if they were willing to part with him…

Buffalo has a lot of pressure on them to make a move to boost their chances of making the playoffs. However, I don't see them going for Lindholm or Hanifin unless the extension is in place.
If Calgary wants to make the playoffs and trade the expiring UFAs, then it's likely we don't trade with a team like Arizona who is also fighting for a playoff spot.

Are they really crazy? Even if you take the season with Hughes out of it, he's still better PPG than Hanifin. Which clearly isn't nearly as important for a D, but it's something.
You could make the same argument about Toews who doesn't look all that special to me, benefits from playing with Makar, and got the 7x$7.25M deal from Colorado 3 years older than these two.

Also want to say that the Flames should really do whatever they can to get Frost. He's being wasted in Philly. Dube for Frost would be a fair swap. Gives us more cap to take on in another deal with one of the pending UFAs.

Yes you could. But I think Toews has more of a body of work, without Makar, to support it.
If it weren't for this season, playing with Hughes, would we be having this conversation?

Mittlestadt is currently leading their team in points. 20 points in 22 games.
I don't see the Sabres moving him as he seems to finally have blossomed into the player they were hoping he could become.
I would still like to see the Flames get Krebs in any deal with Buffalo.
Not great stats this year but is young has skill and speed and could really blossom with more opportunity.

With New York the body of work was 116 GP 11 G 35 A 46 P +8 20 PIM as a 26-year-old 4th round pick.
Career is 336 GP 43 G 153 A 196 P +141 88 PIM. Not really all that different from Hronek, just had more time playing with Makar than Hronek has had with Hughes.

Probably not, I just thought it was interesting. I really don't know which one of them will get the better contract. But Detroit got Axel Sandin Pellikka for an unsigned Hronek, so I hope we get a prospect that good for Hanifin.

I would keep Dube for his age and his cap hit.
If the Flyers were looking to add someone who is more offensive and competitive I would look to see what they would be interested in trading for Mangiapane.
Mangiapane + 6th round pick
Frost, CBJ or PHI 2nd round pick (later of), Zamula

Perry has been placed on waivers, Chicago plans to terminate his contract for unacceptable behaviour.
