Doesn't surprise me. There are 2 good apps that 'unrestrict' what you can do on 3G. (One of which being "3G unrestrictor"...duhhh)

Apple Store. I just went down there today and finally got my upgrade for $159. They have new stock coming in every day, and I only had to wait in line for an hour and a half. They can do everything there that a Fido store can do for you. They can even accept Fido Dollars.

You need to understand something.
People love Apple. Lots of people. They always will, and there will probably always be a growing number of them. This appreciation and fascination with their products will not always be based purely on a technological comparison. You need to accept this and stop trying to convince them otherwise, or should I say ' see the light? ... As you put it.
Enough already.

I know this may be more of a rogers question than an iPhone 4 question...but I want to upgrade my Rogers plan to a family plan and make the new phone an iPhone 4? Is this possible? Can I do that at the apple store?

I'm with Telus. I upgraded to an iPhone 3GS and signed a new contract in November. How can I get the iPhone 4 at a reduced rate? And one other thing, for the unlocked iPhones you can get at the apple store, what does being unlocked mean? Like can you just insert SIM cards from Telus or Rogers or whatever and it works?

To answer your first question... you can't. And yes that is exactly what an unlocked phone does.

Rogers did mess up, I don't qualify for an iPhone 4 at all. Outright/unlocked isn't an option for me either (way too much $), so for all their screwups, they're sending me a 3GS. =P Which is, seriously, a million times better than my 2006 flip phone anyway, and will probably make upgrading to NEXT year's iPhone way easier.
And at 8 gigs, I'll have to be more choosy with music and apps, but hey I'll take it, I don't care.

Yup. Frick Telus pisses me off, the guy working said I wouldnt be eligible for an upgrade until November 2012. All my friends who are with Rogers are eligible to get an upgrade every 1 and a half years.

Surely those updates aren't going to be for the full subsidized price of the phone, but still bogus on Telus' part.

Just call Customer Service and tell them you want to cancel your phone contract. When they put you through to Retentions, tell them you're canceling because you're tired of Telus dragging their heels on everything. Remind them that Bell, Rogers and Fido have early upgrades for their iPhone users, and that they even have iPad sharing plans. Ask them why they were the only company on the planet that still managed to figure out how to turn an unlocked iPad into a month-to-month plan that you had to sign up for in the store in order to use.
If they don't give you the $159 iPhone to keep your business, then they're not worth staying with anyway. Telus is still stuck in the past. They're a dinosaur, and it's probably time to move on.

I would but if I cancel I will still have to pay $75 a month for 27 more months!
EDIT: Also they're the only company that provides decent service at my house. Also what's the number for customer service?

It caps at $400. I know $400 is a lot, but it's less than the $2025 they would get from you if you finished off your contract.
Just tell them you want the iPhone. Let them know that if they want you to buy it outright, it's cheaper for you to pay the $400 cancellation fee and then $159 to get one from Rogers or Bell (on a new activation) than it is to buy it from Telus for $659.
Then remind them that your $75/mo is actually worth $2025 to them over the next two years. Ask them if they really want to lose that money over something silly like an iPhone upgrade.
Again... if they say no, then they're not really a company worthy of your investment.
Edit: Just saw your edit... The service-at-your-house thing is a pain. Just don't tell them that. As for the phone number, you should be able to dial 611 from your cell for Customer Service.

They still had stock yesterday? I wonder if it's worth going down and then cancelling my online order..

I did this and got a "See ya, don't let the door hit you on the way out!". Just waiting for Bell phones to arrive at Visions.
We've been 6 year customers at Telus Mobility spending $160/month and they wouldn't early upgrade me with 13 months left in my contract - my current iPhone I purchased outright in November.

Do Rogers' contracts cap out at $400 as well?
Edit: This is from 2009, so I imagine it's still in play
Quote:
The ECF is the greater of (ii) $100 or (iii) $20 per month remaining in the service agreement, to a maximum of $400 (plus applicable taxes), and applies on each line in the plan that is terminated.

Dumb question of the day. If I in theory could wait and order an iPhone 4 over the phone from Rogers, how would the SIM to micro SIM change affect this?
